It's because Anita got harassed more than Jack. They were clowned on to roughly the same extent, but the most you could interact with Jack was by emailing him. The online ecosystem otherwise wasn't there yet to the extent a goober like him would be part of it, and with the rest of the satanic panic weirdos, even less so. That's not to say harassment and death threats didn't happen, but it meant that anything he ever did get could be easily dismissed as an extreme outlier.
On the other hand, Anita and everything she did was actually online. People could reach her much more easily, both directly and indirectly, along with everything she was doing being put into a system that'd automatically have a comment section. This, along with more people accessing the internet and doing silliness on throwaways, meant that a lot more feces being thrown were actually within the same room as the target, if not flung directly at her.
This already would make normalfags more sympathetic to her, but when her whole thing is about "toxic males in gaming," it goes as far as to prove her right in their eyes.
