The writer of Amphoreus is a writer from Honkai Impact 3, Amphoreus is almost an IDENTICAL story of the Flame Chasers story from that game.
It's also why Phainon and Cyrene are being gigashilled since Phainon (Kevin) and Cyrene (Elysia) are the writer's favorite Honkai Impact 3 characters.

For me personally, Penacony being a literal dreamland planet gave us the prospect that future planets don't have to be tied down to just being themed around some country and can just be a weird idea turned into a planet like how they've teased Punklorde being a fully digitized/cyberspace planet. Which makes sense since HSR is very heavily inspired by stuff like Hitchhiker's Guide To The Galaxy. So Amphoreus defaulting back to the country theming while shilling HI3 nostalgia feels like a conceptual downgrade on all fronts.

I picked this up for Kafka and then dropped it when I realized she's like the Dain of HSR. the cool character who shows up every once in a while and is clearly being saved for much later in the story (and will probably be ruined long before then anyway)

The endgame does revolve around killing Nanook / stopping the spread of Stellaron's, yeah. Elio supposedly created the Trailblazer for that exact purpose. Unfortunately, the stories are very self-contained in HSR and never push forward this main thread.
There's also the Trailblazing endgame which is to reestablish the Astral Rails that got severed by Nanook, and finding out what happened with Akivili's "death", but that's just the excuse used to travel to new planets.
Other than that, you only have stuff that's probably never going to see any actual main story relevance in this decade or even the next: Emperor Rubert is apparently resurrecting, the cosmic wall that Qlipoth is building to keep "something" away, the Propagation returning (which is associated with Luocha's / Jingliu / the Xianzhou's story) and more stuff I'm surely forgetting.

She was the feature banner character at that time, and their plan to sell her was to...try and make people dislike her in order to prop up Castorice and Phaenon. I played every day from release to ruan mei

What killed it for me was the quality of writing. At some point I couldn't even get myself to do new content even though I was keen to get more resources, because I just really didn't want to cringe my way through badly written cutscenes yet again. I legitimately felt averse to it.

The battle system is very well made and the art/animations are high quality, but at the end of the day if the writers have absolutely no idea what they're doing then there's no reason to bother playing, really. So I quit and never looked back, despite putting in >1000 hours and being very happy since I had pulled every single female character to that point.

It's a real shame gacha game devs put zero thought or effort into writing. All that money and time and talent dumped into the production values of everything else, totally wasted.

It's the fact that most of Amphoreus is horrendously bloated filler because they forced themselves to stretch the story over 8 patches and the fact that characters disappear from the plot after their shill banner is over. All the good world building HSR has is wasted because the character and story writing doesn't capitalize on it.

That, and the average patch has 6-8 hours of main story with 2 hours of that actually mattering and 1 event worth 1 - 2 hours of playtime. After that you get jack shit for 5 1/2 weeks.

I don't think it is but Wuwa is really cool and deserves to beat both in my personal opinion, having playing all hoyo games and then more.
The only gachas that retained my attention were genshin and limbus and only recently Wuwa which has truly made an impression on how a game can be both developed at a breakneck pace while being of top tier quality. I thought hoyo were the best in the market but I've been proven wrong even if I still love genshin.

It's not about bad or good. The existence of costumes in a gacha are simply a barometer for a game's financial success. If it is doing phenomenally, like HSR and Genshin, it'll rarely/never need costumes. If it is doing poorly, like WuWa and ZZZ, then they'll be pumping out constant costumes over and over.

I would say that neither CounterSide or Path to Nowhere have a good story in general, but both have some isolated moments that are good.
Blue Archive doesn't have a good story at all, but it has decent writting if it fits your tastes, like cute girls doing funny things in a story that isn't really meant to be taken seriously.
