A fanbase is the perfect target for the socially maladapted and narcissists. Its just a group of people that like a thing so liking the thing the most makes you have more social power in the group. As the fanbase grows larger more of these people show up creating content for the other fans (art, community projects, memes, etc). And the more shit that gets created the more the focus of the fanbase goes from the actual subject and instead changes to be about who the top dogs of the fanbase are.

While I understand why a blank slate character like that makes sense, constantly being referred to in gender neutral terms takes you out of it unless you really do identify as a they/them. It's one of the few scenarios where being able to select your pronouns at the start of the game would actually be useful. The MC's design is intentionally androgynous, their name is whatever you want it to be, so why not also let you also be a he/him, a she/her, or a they/them if you want to double down on the vagueness?

Touhou and Deltarune
I love the setting of Touhou, I find the characters fun and the music to be kind of nice, but good fucking god. It's either people treating it as the second coming of Christ, or the /bant/ shit that is the threads here. It's gotten bad enough to where you can't even start a thread. Some innocent naive motherfucker will get his thread deleted even for trying to discuss the games, simply because every thread is raided by the same third world shitposters. /jp/ has all its highest PPM threads be the ones that aren't Touhou. And that's just on 4chan.
Deltarune has a clear audience and that audience in the West is colored hair people, but the threads here are a lot of fun at least.
I think actual shoot-em-up games still have a decent fanbase. They have the same type of autism as speedrunning, but somehow they attract way less pronoun people. It's pretty much just arcadefags.

If I need anything I just get it from Reddit since they're at least productive and don't turn the thread into their personal discord server. Same with /tg/. Never tried the main games but there was a TPS game called Peach Beach that some people actually posted gameplay of and I decided to try it. It's not bad. Fun in a low budget way. Not something I would actively recommend but I had few complaints for a 5/10 game.
There was also a pinball game that was like $40 for two tables.

Fallout as a whole for me. There's not a piece of media in this franchise that's less than good.
The originals, Bethesda games, New Vegas and the show all have different great things going for them and if you liked any Fallout thing you should try them all.
The originals have great worldbuilding and player agency.
The Bethesda games have great exploration and the now extinct 'Bethesda magic' from Oblivion and Skyrim.4
The show is fun and enables you to talk to normies about the franchise.
And New Vegas has a little bit of all the above.
