User Experience sucked when they were at the hype stage, thus the hype failed and normies failed to care. Bizniggers started to hype it up too early and everyone got to see how shit it was. They failed to consider how tech illiterate as well as how broke both groups are. Same for crypto btw.
I like to think I'm above average when it comes to tech skills and troubleshooting and it still took me 3 hours to set up an Oculus Quest 2 and the only reason why I powered through is because I needed it for work. I had a separate hardware issue and a software issue on the side of Meta servers, that they didn't fix since 2022. A normgroid wouldn't last 15 minutes of this bullshit and this is after multiple years of development.
Then the experience was mid and I got sick after 30 minutes.
On top of that it's just too expensive then and everyone is more anxious about spending too much nowadays, what's the point of buying a decent PC and an expensive peripheral when most people have smartphones that arguably allow the same thing and more, without making you vomit.
