Planes in ground battles in War Thunder, or artillery in World of Tanks. I guess it adds realism because you randomly explode from something so far away you have no way to actually account for it. In both games people use the same defense, "It prevents camping" when in reality you're more likely to get bombed if you stick your neck out. If there's only a few people left on the map and you need to capture the middle point, guess what the guy in the plane does when he sees the point is being captured and someone must be sitting in the circle that might have zero fucking cover.

RNG keeps the game interesting and rewards actual strategy and tactics by forcing the player to have backup plans and deal with everything not always going as planned rather than turning every encounter into a puzzle or a math problem which is typically what happens in TBS games without it. The actual gameplay is not separate from the RNG. You should also use that apple visualizing brain to realize the combat is abstracted and the sectoid isn't just standing two feet away but he's dashing to cover or firing back and that's why your soldier misses.

>>712888218I'm not claiming its rigged I'm claiming the stated probability is a lie, especially in the EU & early on in EW & 2. The latter two seemed more accurate off rip & got progressively more accurate as characters leveled up but still totally outside the stated probabilities. 97% chance to hit was far less than a coin flip for example, it was virtually guaranteed to miss almost every single time with an occasional lucky hit.

Again, this is why other devs change it so that a 95% chance is actually just shy of 100% because that's what the average person expects and they get complaints otherwise. I guess the alternative is that there's obfuscated code hidden in the game designed just to lie to the player and somehow nobody's figured it out despite people analyzing their actual results ingame.
>>712891317I can install EW right now & I'd bet everything I own & every penny I have to my name that that I can flip a coin on the ground calling heads in real life & take a 97% shot each 50 times in a row & I'll have more successful calls for heads than shots hitting in the game. I'm confident because based on dozens of hours of pattern recognition from playing the game the real life 50/50 will skew far more in my favor than the alleged 97% chance.
Its possible that I experienced a series of coincidences but given the widespread criticism that the odds of hitting are bullshit I really doubt that my experience is unique.

The crafting system in Tactics Ogre.
An RTS game called broken arrow just came out, and for some goddamn reason lacks the ability to play a 1v1 versus AI. If you try to fight AI, it requires you to be in a 3v3 format, and has no friendly AI, so the game will mot start unless you find three other human players to play with. The community was outraged until someone realized the restriction can be flipped off by changing some words in an ini file. So there was no singleplayer purely because the devs turned it off on purpose.
>>712892550I don't care that much, bro. Like Shattered Soldier before it, Neo Contra has part of the endgame gated behind maintaining an A-rank average across the game's first five stages, and stage 6 is almost entirely a multi-stage boss battle, with the last part being a TIMED boss battle (pic related). This battle is not difficult in theory, but you have to inflict max damage possible in 30 seconds while shadow clones, space lasers, and attacks designed to make your character slowly recover from having been tripped (in a CONTRA game).
If you can't do it, game over. Back to the title screen. Extra lives? Fuck 'em. Came in with continues? Aren't you sweet. Back to the title screen. You can try practicing that stage when you make it back to the menu, but your in-game progress still isn't saved, so you'll have to spend close to an hour maintaining high-level play across the first five stages again just to try it again for real.

What good commander or squad leader in history that's seen actual combat has been able to say with 100% certainty that their soldier will hold a position if somebody pushes him? Which one hasn't had to take risks with the lives of his men or have backup plans for when things go awry? None. Yet somehow we're able to distinguish great military leaders. >>712880574 (OP)>be someone who likes to 100% a game>kokoro seeds
>>712941289>modern nintendo game>has some collectible that takes tens of hours to grind and hunt for 100%SURELY I can't be the only one who notices how they keep doing this to justify the prices, right?
>>712941289>>712941495Tears made it so much fucking worse too. Having to hunt through the boring shitty Hyrule that's practically 1:1 from the last game along with a shitty tacked on gimmick like the underground all to get absolutely nothing worth caring about is insane.
>>712880617>>712881197Literally even Miyazaki couldn't believe people ate that shit up. He literally apologized before the game came out and at least initially said he would do things completely different.
>>712941289>>712941495100%ers deserve to suffer
>>712942164I WANT TO SEE EVERYTHING THE GAME HAS TO OFFER
DOING THIS DUMBASS "COLLECT MY 666 SCRIMBLIES" SHIT IS ANNOYING
>>712942164>punishing someone for exploring your open world gameBravo
>game has a set of hidden collectables
>exactly one of them is missable
>it's also the hardest one to find
Grand Strategy supremacy games by Bytro Labs and their system of persistent resources on account that carry out through games you play. As a new player you can get resources and free units and then use those three month later to pull a game win out of your ass. You can also blatantly and unashamedly pay2win (in a game where sessions may last for 20 IRL days). Those games are a massive clusterfuck of bad ideas, like artillery you need to micro manage in real time (sometimes for 6 hours or more), night attacks when you sleep, utterly horrible matchmaking, etc.
>>712942803Remember when you would look up on YouTube where the collectables are at and the uploader would jump all around the map instead of finding them in order?
>>712880574 (OP)I don't remember what action game it was, but it played a long fucking cutscene before every boss fight, and on every subsequent retry for that boss fight.
Completely inexcusable game design.
>>712942164Take the nintendong out of your ass, anon, I don't do it with every game, but if the gameplay is fun and the world is inviting I like to complete the experience.
>>712943241kingdom hearts 1?
>>712943114or you look it up on the wiki and there's a screenshot but it's so zoomed in it's impossible to use any context clues to tell what's happening
>>712926225>persona 3 fight systemfor me it was randomized movesets from fusing personas so you have to sit there and mash them together until you get what you want
>>712880574 (OP)Street Fighter 6 throw loops i like doing them to other people though
>>712880617That's not an answer to the question he asked you mindbroken retard.
>>712943509i'm pretty sure there's a calculator that can tell you which one is it but i cant imagine rawdogging that game on launch without wiki
>>712910935Checkpoints in front of bosses has been effectively mandated as they load more and more of the difficulty onto the bosses themselves.
Which is related to diluting the areas.
>Final Fantasy games
>A metric fuckton of enemies are weak to Wind, Water, and Earth.
>Most games in the series give you JACK FUCKING SHIT for dealing those types of damage, unlike the abundance of easily accessible sources for the fire, blizzard, thunder trinity.
Like the only ways to deal Water damage in FF5 are Gaia (RNG and location dependent), Leviathan (extremely lategame summon), and Water Scrolls (gil sink consumable). And FF9 has a grand total of 2 Earth attacks.
Still blows my mind 24 years later that FF10 actually had a proper series of Water spells.

>>712942268if you've collected one seed you've collected them all. i doubt they were even intended to be 100 percented

>Game has an element-themed boss who predictably uses mostly that element.
>Equip gear and abilities that resist that element beforehand.
>For daring to build your party for that boss the game throws its entire battle script out the window and has it relentlessly spam the game's UNRESIST FUCK YOU 99999999 DAMAGE GIGA NUKE spell.
contra III robbing you of a proper ending sequence and basically telling you to git gud when you beat the game on normal.
I played the game off and on for years, it was like a daily ritual to put a quick run of contra in after I had gotten my homework done. one weekend after having finally got to the end game boss rush I was keyed in, I spent all weekend replaying the game to learn the final boss and finally I managed to clear it. no save states. the literal years of my life I spent playing that game off and on from childhood and my reward is a splash screen telling me to play it again on hard if I want the true experience. no credits, no slideshow, no catharsis.
When i try out hard mode bullets move at fuck off speed and the game feels spammy and cheap. sure hard should have a bonus but contra 3 on normal, beaen legit is too fucking hard and time consuming to tell players to just fuck off.
>>712880821Difficulty modes that have to be unlocked are a pretty good pick for this.
>RPG with elemental damage system
>weaknesses donโt correlate with the appearance or theme of enemies at all and may as well be completely random
the uh thing where the character in your party leaves taking all your shit.
>game has parts where you have to play as one of your party members solo
>if you benched them earlier and didnโt level them or give them gear your playthrough is bricked
>you can redeem the villain bitch
>it requires such a highly specific series of dialogue and choices (many of which require you to simp unreasonably hard for her) that essentially no one will get it without a guide
>RPG with elemental damage system
>figuring out enemy weaknesses is a crapshoot and bosses don't have weaknesses anyway so it's more efficient to just go all in on full power neutral hits towards anything that isn't completely immune
>zodiac spear
>bosses that can take hours
>>712943286I've been thinking about it and it could have been Persona 4. I remember it being on PS2, most definitely.
>>712880574 (OP)can't make the cute boys wear the cute dresses
see: every game with cute boys you can't force to wear dresses.
also where's the fucking games where you put the dresses on them and they hate it, act embarrassed, blush. I want to force cute boys to run through town in dresses.
also no homo

>>712885593>this fucking Slavic rat thought that having to manually charge your phone was part of the "gameplay experience."Russians are obsessed with "muh immershun" time-wasting shit like minutes-long item animations for everything, weapons that break after three reloads, etc. See: the miseryshit mods in Stalker, that were eventually taken to an utter extreme with Tarkov and GAMMA (single-player Tarkov for shitters).
>>712880617elden ring base game was pretty good except malenia and the snowfield area
shadow of erdtree was pretty unfun. too aimless
>>712945889Had that happen in Mother 3 with the monkey
metro's good endings. i did my best, i'm not doing all that. i'm still getting 20 lap dances
>>712950801The only time it was hard to get was the original 2033 where the bad ending was the canon one. After that all you need to do is explore the levels and not be bad at stealth and you'd have to be fucking retarded to get the bad endings for 2034 or Exodus.
>>712945736Monster Hunter. Sometimes it's just a crapshoot
>>712943937>lol look at you criticizing [game], [game with mods] is great
>>712911984Durability with a recharge or only fixable at camp is the way to do it, if at all. Encourages you to diversify and use strategy but doesn't leave you with tons of stuff "too good to use". Dark Douls had it in the right direction, your stuff has to last to the next checkpoint, but you can fix it easily.
If your stuff permanently breaks after a few minutes of use, it's not a weapon, it's a consumable.

>>712902818>I'll never understand the notion that you need everything to be guaranteed to be a 'real' tactics game when the very nature of tactics is messy and uncertain where you can only hedge the odds as much in your favor as possible.Bullets need to be guaranteed to actually come out of your gun barrel and then they need to hit something. If your tactics game is really a board game, then it's shit.
>>712953991how would you translate that to a game?
