Okay, let's see if I can make sense of this bullshit:

So the DK we play as is a young Cranky Kong (the original DK), and Pauline is 13 here. Which would mean that DK has a son at home (DKJr), and Mario and Luigi are teenagers.

He takes her back to the surface (probably Metro Kingdom) where she meets Mario and a giant misunderstand happens which leads to the first Donkey Kong game.

I guess over time DK gets older and just becomes Cranky Kong, whilst his son grows up and becomes the modern DK. But then this doesn't explain why Cranky, Diddy, and Dixie are in this game, unless there are time travel shenanigans going on.
