It couldn't maintain a consistent genre, it split into two timelines and then cancelled the main one, it forgot it had a story to tell, it flanderized itself in tone, it neglected its ensemble cast to pander to the most popular waifu, it drove off anyone who didn't like her, and then it couldn't pivot when her fans got bored and also moved on.
Sony being difficult was just an excuse to avoid acknowledging that the series was mismanaged. Nobody ever imposed anything on Senran Kagura that couldn't easily be worked around while maintaining its identity.
