But when most people say "walking simulator" they're specifically trying to evoke games where you literally do nothing but press forward to advance the story. What did I find? A walking simulator where you deliver packages, where there is absolute emptiness, no NPCs, only holograms of more or less famous people and cutscene after cutscene of a badly told story, between flashbacks and non-sense expositions.
In MGS there is a minimum of logic, of epicness, here I felt nothing.

While I was facing one of the mandatory bosses jumping around in the slime and shooting a sponge of hp without any engaging gameplay, or one of the foot enemies with no AI and no challenge whatsoever, I wondered: why am I playing this? There is nothing in this game, just walking to deliver packages that unlock cutscenes and pointless flashback sections where you walk again, to reach an ending where you walk for 2 hours, between the beach and the incinerator.
It's a fucking walking simulator where you deliver packages to people you have NO CONNECTION with and you won't develop any, ironic huh? More than half of your time is spent with people you don't care about and the other half where there's no point in wasting your time delivering packages. The steering is one of the most disgusting things I've ever seen, it gets stuck, bounces, accelerates for no reason, flips over, I'm sorry you don't realize how horrible it is.

The whole point of the game is Sam wants to isolate himself, but he is connected to everyone whether he wants to be or not. Those connections are how he goes to the Beach to stop the extinction, it's why when he says he doesn't know what to do he's told "How could you not?" The cities in DS have nothing for Sam. It's not part of his job and the streets are said to be mostly empty, they just serve as a background. Yes they could have shown a few bunker interiors like the Higgs one when you unlock the ability to rest in them, but it's not necessary to get the point across.
