I recall from Clone Wars lore that Mace Windu was the only one with a Purple lightsaber because to get a purple crystal you have to brave an incredibly dangerous cave and Windu was the only one brave enough / skilled enough to do it in generations.

Yellow single blade and yellow double bladed has always been my jam. (Zayne Carrick and Bastila Shan) Although double bladed always felt a little too OC to me sometimes. Had a homebrew Star Wars campaign once and everybody duel wielding silver and purple, or a long black single blade, or different colored double bladed, or even just having three lightsabers really made me wary of overdoing it. Most people should stick to the single blade.

With the new canon, its specified that Jedi don't use lightsabers because they're effective weapons, they use them because they're part of their culture. They actually have a bunch of super weapons using the 'magic crystals' and they're locked away never to be used because they're not traditional. So yeah, although a kyber crystal on a stick might be useful somehow, somewhere, maybe. It's too different to be used to the conservative jedi order.

My autism demands I use my class color. Last playthrough of 1 I was a guardian so blue and I was a consular in 2 right after that so green. I liked the old EU standard of everything was just hog wild. It was fun, and even the wackier stuff was normalized. Natural crystals could be whatever. Reds are synthetic because of a consistent crystalline pattern. Evil guys didn't have access to crystal sources. Cool.

The disney era changes are cringe as fuck. Now if you don't have a Green or Blue is because the writers OC is just speshul. It got even worse when they came up with bleeding crystals. The debate is dead. Disney ruined Star Wars. In particular, if we're talking about crystal lore, the Vader comic series that came out post-Disney acquisition ruined it by introducing crystal bleeding, in which all red lightsaber crystals were turned red from being super duper evil. Before, Sith used red crystals because they used synthetic crystals. Synthetic crystals were manufactured crystals that were stronger than naturally occuring crystals. They usually came out red. There are naturally occuring red cystals, they're just rare. They had higher heat resistance, kinetic force output, etc. Mostly they were used specifically as a means of tailoring a force users lightsaber blade to overcome specific obstacles, like fighting another lightsaber wielder, or to cut and burn flesh easier rather than metal. This was a commentary on how the Sith will use any means necessary to obtain power even if it goes against the "natural order" of the universe. Jedi generally thought of synthetic crystals as abominations because each crystal was supposed to choose its Jedi. It was a right of passage.

There is also a whole backstory about Sith alchemy and the various ways they use the dark side to subvert nature and create things by imbuing them with the force or sometimes from nothing. This was taken to the highest degree in Episode 9, which canonized a lot of good shit but unfortunately after the shitshow that was episode 8, had to be rushed and have 2 stories crammed into one.

Anyway:
