It'll get extremely high reviews because it's a popular new release and reviewers are scared of getting attacked if they give a popular new release a score lower than an 8, even if the game is a dumpster fire.
This is doubled by it being a Kojima game, nobody wants to be the reviewer who says "yeah the story was shit and incomprehensible" then get flooded with people telling them to commit suicide and they just weren't smart enough to understand it.
It'll probably just be the exact same as the first game with a bunch of new QOL and some new features, so take whatever score you gave the first game and add one or two.

The first Death Stranding was incredible, crazy story notwithstanding; but even then, it was so earnest in its craziness, that it was still something special. The gameplay was a lot of fun, and it iterated upon itself near-perfectly.

As long as the gameplay isn't fucked with (and it only looks expanded-upon), I honestly can't imagine DS2 being anything less than an 8 or 9. It's even managing to run well on the PS5 without UE5 slop shenanigans. That alone is noteworthy.

The gameplay is extremely subtle, and without a solid grasp of the trigger buttons most of the traversal will go over a typical gamer's head. Well the asynchronous stuff WAS a huge point, same for the likes system. I think day 1 it won't matter, but like if you played DS1 right now as many people have been alot of ladders or bridges have been built and you don't really need to interact with the system. Week 1 of DS2 will be similar to how the first game launched, you still will need to do preparations and maybe even pre-run the route and lay down the stuff.
