Previously, before the nonbinary stuff, there were movements to push the idea that "girls can play sports too and still be girls" and "boys can play with dolls too, that doesn't make you less of a boy". These were movements done to dismantle the role of rigid gender roles. Nonbinary rejects this idea in its core, as it sees certain actions as inherently male or female, and that partaking in them can influence what you are on the inside. I think a better analogy would be voting. If you want to fully reject the system, you must not-vote. I went in knowing that Clover would die at the end. All that I wanted was for Clover to get to go down fighting at the end. He didn't even get that. Either he commits suicide and has a slow, painful death and his things are thrown away, or Asgore attacks first and Clover doesn't even get a turn.
