Let's be honest, a weird route is just a poorly disguised evil/bad/negative route from other RPGs. Something like embracing Durge in BG3, Swarm-That-Walks in WOTR, or necron worship in RT.

Previously, before the nonbinary stuff, there were movements to push the idea that "girls can play sports too and still be girls" and "boys can play with dolls too, that doesn't make you less of a boy". These were movements done to dismantle the role of rigid gender roles. Nonbinary rejects this idea in its core, as it sees certain actions as inherently male or female, and that partaking in them can influence what you are on the inside. I think a better analogy would be voting. If you want to fully reject the system, you must not-vote. If you reject the government though, any kind of voting, even writing in a joke candidate, is still participating and legitimizing the system.

I went in knowing that Clover would die at the end. All that I wanted was for Clover to get to go down fighting at the end. He didn't even get that. Either he commits suicide and has a slow, painful death and his things are thrown away, or Asgore attacks first and Clover doesn't even get a turn. Either way, he brings the monsters one step closer to attempting genocide against humanity.

Kris's gender identity is not their entire personality and has nothing to do with the story, they just happen to be non-binary, and the writing doesn't draw attention to it or treat it like a defining part of their character. It's the exact type of character /v/ always claims to be fine with, but people are still having a melty over it and projecting their obsession with it onto everyone else.
