This is the most fun I've had gaming in years. I feel alive again. This makes Death Stranding 1 look liked Metal Gear: Survive.
I was a big critic of DS1s narrative and missed potential, I take it all back I don't care. It set the stage for this game which properly fleshes out the universe and the gameplay.

Not to mention visually, I keep setting my controller down and marveling at the screen. Pictures do not do it justice. I get teary eye'd just looking at it sometimes.
Don't care if you call me a shill, delusional Kojima fan, whatever. You are objectively wrong. Telling me this game isn't great would be like telling me pussy doesn't feel good. I genuinely will never believe you and I pity you for holding that opinion.

Death Stranding 1 was one of the best games of the century, and proved all the Jewnami's viral haters wrong.

But I will NOT buy a Piss5, or any other console, to play the sequel. Bring it on PC ASAP, Kojibro!

You don't do much. It IS 90% walking around with a box. Kojima drones will point out it's also driving with more boxes but that hardly helps right? Still boring. If walking was so fun, why drive? If walking wasn't fun, the game is 90% filled with it. Kojima drones cannot reconcile this contradiction.

well square should be attack, circle should be crouch, l1 and r1 should be flipped, having crouch and breath hold mapped to the same button is really weird, and it's even weirder that it's on r1. the wheel is also really convoluted and I miss how it was in the original. it feels overly designed and uncomfortable to play.

yeah I just really don't like the controls, it's not really about adaptating for me personally. I don't accidentally hit the wrong button to perform an action I just don't like how the controls are laid out. I really hope we get an update for custom control schemes. as it is now it's a 10/10 game with a 0/10 control scheme.

>This makes Death Stranding 1 look liked Metal Gear: Survive.

An admittedly unusual comparison because they are opposites - Survive is a narrative step backwards from MGS5 while expanding and enhancing it mechanically.

DS2 expands and improves on DS1 mechanically, but is arguably a step back narratively and atmospherically. Not drastically so, of course.

However a simple way to put it is DS1 and Survive are both actually good games

I think an easy mistake people make is that pretty much every single open world or semi open world game for that matter has worthless traversal. You basically point yourself at a map marker and hold forward until you get there, if you're not already nullifying it with stuff like fast travel. Maybe you'll run into things on the way, but in any event, it's just shit you do to get to some place where you actually get to do something, it's filler.

In DS, the traversal IS the gameplay so it actually has systems, goals and hostility towards the player.

This shit is just a more of the same. Good game, but the impact is really not there for me this time around.
I'm not a kojimbo sucker, so not even the cringe story is saving it this time orund.
There is still a lot of junk, but in a good way. But there is also a lot of boring moments during gameplay, just like the original game.
People who say DS 1-2 are masterpieces simply didn't try to 100% the games. It's a fucking tragedy of a game loop. Avoid if not for the main quest (if you are into that kind of shit). And if you are not quite sure this is the game for you, play the first one first; it's the same shit.

You don't solve the problem in the first game, you essentially delay it by convincing a godlike being to not immediately send all known life extinct

So the problems in 2 broadly are a combination of the consequences of an extinction level event being in progress but paused making things go increasingly fucky, and someone trying to flip the switch back to Everything Dies Now mode

I liked the first game but haven't been following the second. Is the gameplay still the same? Like, it's mainly based around walking & transporting stuff, sneaking around ghosts, combat is discouraged outside of specific scripted story sequences. Idk, I feel like you can't really call the game a "successor" to MGSV if it is. Not saying it's bad, I really liked it, but pretending it's anything similar to MGSV feels a bit disingenuous.

2 is much more combat focused.
Most guns have "multipurpose" ammo that auto swaps depending on targets, so very few things can outright kill mules.
New mech enemies make combat a bit more tactical and dangerous.
More offensive tools for BT's.
Stealth mechanics were fleshed out a bit more, with silenced weapons and even tranq guns.
The bandit camps themselves just look ripped right out of MGSV since they straight up have the exact same lensflare effects if searchlights spot you.

Yeah it feels much, much more like MGSV for the stealth sections. It also has more of that sci-fi magic going on with the plot so far. (idk how to explain this, DS1 had it but this feels more focused, more creative)
Don't get me wrong it's still death stranding, and that's a good thing. But you feel the MGS DNA in here.

I'm only about to go to Australia now but so far I'm incredibly disappointed.

>map is a lot wiiiiider with stretches of no notable geographical features, aka vehicle centric, yet the driving physics somehow haven't been improved AT ALL since 2019. even indie shit does a better job (for example, Fumes)
>the two central story hooks are incredibly weak. Sam agrees to go to Mexico and link it up for the UCA because... Fragile asked nicely. even though his life now revolves around raising Lou and he's happy to be with her. why would he agree? they didn't even bother to deliver a good argument, Sam's just like "ok"
>then the second story hook which of course happens at the end of the Mexico intro is that Sam helps the woman under whose protection you-know-what happened to link up Australia... just because, I guess. again, there's no like "but if we can go to the Beach then there's hope that we can bring her back!" it's just "ok, guess I'll go lol"
and then the part where the BB suddenly appears in the pod again and laughs and goes on an adventure with Sam just like old times felt incredibly poorly set up. like sure, like always there's gonna be some explanation but the setup is still poor. entire game so far feels like Kojima didn't know how to deliver any compelling reasons whatsoever as to why this sequel even needed to exist.
also, again why Fragile's skin isn't wrinkly anymore will probably be explained later, so don't spoil me, but it's retarded that Sam doesn't think to point it out whatsoever or doesn't think it's strange.

It's the opposite, people who didn't like DS1 will like DS2, because it gets rid of all that "pesky traversal" and now you just mindlessly drive everywhere. People who enjoyed DS1 for its gameplay will be disappointed because everything about DS2 is just significantly dumbed down and it's not like DS1 was challenging, but at least you had to be somewhat mindful playing it.

Has anyone noticed how large Sam's new moveset is, especially when you put down your backpack?
- While holding your backpack, holding x makes you hop at the expense of stamina
- Holding either L2 or R2 and pressing x makes you dodge to the left/right
- Dolphin-diving becomes a dodge roll when holding a handgun
- Double jump offers a bigger boost
- The level 2 lightning spear has its own moveset with charge mechanics

Bro don't lie. This is the same exact fucking game and that's personally why I'm disappointed. I wanted more deliberate routing, terrain, traversal options and techniques. We got none of that. It's just DS1 again with nominally better graphics. No one who disliked 1 is going to like 2.

The IGN reviewer made a video pre release in which he said that he's reviewing DS2, so he's gonna say what he thinks about DS1 and he didn't like it too much. One of the reasons he cited was that the whole traversal gameplay was tedious and got in the way or the story. Fast forward, he gave DS2 a 9, because it trivialises all that pesky gameplay.

My gut was telling me from the beginning that all of these effusive previews were just tge marketing machine working overtime and journalists were full of shit. I don't think anybody likes this more or less than 1, they simply recognized Kojima's rising star and DS gaining status since its initial release. It's why something as shitty as FFXVI also got glowing reviews: not wanting to deal with backlash from annoying fans. This is the same exact game. That's why it's disappointing. No normal person who played and disliked 1 is going to pick up 2 and think it's better. It's just the same. This is in the same ballpark as ToTK coming 6 years off of BoTW.

I'm literally disappointed in DS2 for the same reason as you. But to me it actually leads to me disliking the game, not just feeling about it the same as DS1, because everything that could've been iterated on meaningfully, wasn't.

You don't understand humans then. People who disliked DS1 will end up liking DS2, because the general discourse around DS1 has changed from "lmao gay walking simulator" to reverence, and people like to fit in. Now with the sequel, people already know that DS1 is now seen in a more positive light, so naturally to avoid friction with the rest of the group, they'll decide that, actually it's good.

The reviews literally support this, look up the original review scores for DS1, (not DC) and then compare them to DS2. The game has not even 1/5th the amount of mixed reviews despite being "the same"

Never tweeted at Kojima for gratification. I just loved doing it.

>This
I have been saying this since the first trailer had no new gameplay additions.
We had "levolution" kind of events during missions already in DS1.
Tornados/Storms, endless Timefall and whatnot.
The worst part for me is that this games only "additions" are shit copied from MGSV, which copied it from Peace walker, which copied it from...
So we have another MGS, with a hint of DS1.
Infact, some people will like it because its less DS than it is MGS.

Yet they didnt even develop it any further by letting sam lean and ballancing him via tilting the controller.
Being in combat and leaning around a corner by tilting the controller would be something atleast...

If they wanted DS2 to be great, they would have created a city instead of a fkn country again.
Gone with the blastwave and Fallout would be great inspirations for the kind of settings of DS.

In fact, 2034 has a great railcar level that could have inspired Death Stranding with powerful vehicles that only have limited use.

no it doesn't, how do I make square punch and interact at the same time? how do I make circle crouch and r1 hold breath? the issue is multiple actions are mapped to a single button and there is no way to split or combine those actions in assessablities.

Its full of DEI woke female bullshit. Sam is a bumbling idiot, a literal gofer while all the women he interacts with are literal Gods compared to him. Emotionally and even physically. Elle is has giga dooms and can 1 v the whole world if she wishes. Its gay ass Kojima humiliation ritual faggotry so he can get into hollywood.

So far I'm a bit disappointed with the plot. Kojima does some retarded things like a big exposition about Rainy's past over the comm when it would make more sense for Fragile to explain this all inside the Magellan or the fact that Rainy's episode had fuck all to do with Rainy. Just did the first combat veteran fight and besides being way way easier than WW1 on Very Hard the way you are brought to the battlefield was shittier than the hurricane in DS1 and I can't see this dude measuring up to Mads at all and there is no family connection here so what is the point.

this is what RTS hero units do
I can't complain, I've been looking for games where you can build infrastructure. If only there was a game where it's still open world but there's more to civilization than just empty bunkers, my dick would be diamonds if, say, I'm in a warzone and what I'm doing is basically 50/50 Just Cause and reverse Just Cause where I rebuild and capture shit after I'm done destroying shit
