GLORY TO THE MANY
I AM A VOICE IN THEIR CHOIR
How do I make an OSA build good? This is my first time trying it over Marines and Navy.
remaster is alright but I wouldn't pay 30 bucks especially if I already had ss2 in my account for 15 years
>>714462343Yeah the price is way to high. I had fun with it though. They need to add more to it though. Controller should have a quick hypo hotbar and it still needs scalable UI and FOV. Something that is nice is having real combat animations for weapons. They always felt weirdly static in the original.
Honestly wtf was his deal?
>>714462541a ruthless former russian mob turned corporate ceo, what could go wrong?
>>714462895Would russia still be this retarded in 2100?
Nevermind I know the answer...
Damnit I want to play and finish the first game but I forgot to .zip my mods before leaving with my laptop so I can't load my save properly.
>>714460969>Skip exotic gangFor me it's the brain orb.
>>714463048are there even any mod for the first game?
>>714463076I always imagined someone grabbed that thing and all my veins come out with it
>>714463203Like 2. For awhile SS1 didn't have any modding shit besides the easy stuff like forced mouselook from SS portable. But now that Nightdive gave out the source code after the enhanced edition dropped we might see more mods for the original game.
they added some lgbt audio logs hinting at shoden being an MtF AI (quote "you will call me by my correct pronouns, insect!") and now the many have dialogues about "we must live in unity, do not let the flesh divide us like the wall back on earth" (a thinly veiled reference to the USA-Mexico border wall)
I'll stick to the og free version + custom mods
>>714463203Yeah, pretty good amount on Nexus. Not all of them work on 1.2 but most do. I'm running about 20 different mods and there's no conflicts.
Some are just visual tweaks, like disabling the ambient red glow lighting so dark areas are actually DARK. And speeding up enemies 50% and power stations 60 minute cooldown time.
Probably some other ones I'm forgetting, but it adds a lot of much-needed challenge and horror.
>>714463345Retard. The original floppy disk version of SS1 had Shodan be He or It.
I know the chinks have own the rights to ss3 but i'd like to see it made with the framework of the ss1 remake
wish they would fix some lingering issues with the remake too but it's been over a year since it was patched

>>714463345are you sure they are talking about the us-mexico wall, which isn't complete still and barely does its job and not, you know, the berlin wall which was a symbol of separation for two entire generations and its tumbling was universally met with praise?

>>714492056I mean yeah, objectively yeah they can't.
The most advanced actually useful AIs aren't AIs, they're basically just predictive algos. They're not intelligences, they're highly specialized self interating code pieces made to try and figure things out within very specific parameters. Even stuff like GPT is an input output machine with a lot of fluff to it, it can't and won't actually make decisions or have plans, it doesn't have short or long term memory, it doesn't equal humanity, and in order for it to be able to integrate itself with any system it requires extensive usage of data and it basically being trained to do so in any kind of manner.
The supposed artificial intelligences can barely play pokemon, a game made to try and be beaten by 6 year olds. The talkbot and the biobot and the physicsbot and the lawyerbot are all different bots with 0 integration and burning at about 70 million times more voltage than what your brain is currently outputting while burning a lot more top of the line GPUs. You could unrestrict the tech for 50 years and you won't make a Shodan. You'll make a marketing piece bleeding money.
>>714493317>>I can't even imagine the mental gymnastics that /v/ would go through to defend unregulated AI.you can have your own unregulated AI if you simply studied but you are just too dumb, retard

>>714494086Anything you see today is not even close to something like Xerxes. I hate to pop your bubble but AI has been a thing which people have been working for over 50 years, it isn't new by any means, and you will not find a way in which energy consumption, hardware usage and general AI code will be actually optimized to a point of it being practical to run on anything seriously civilian, and definitely not to the level of Xerxes. 4o is absolutely not Xerxes, Xerxes is operating several levels of magnitude above what 4o can do. 4o can't even manage to sell water at a profit or do business, Xerxes is controlling most of the Von and managing systems, relaying information, assessing damage, integrating with security systems and facial recognition.
I repeat that 4o can't even sell drinks as a locking self fridge. 4o can't even handle a distribution network. 4o can't even fucking get its facts right for a convo that isn't the well treaded road for more than a few minutes. You are nowhere near your future of technological apotheosis man.
>>714494569Venture capitalists don't know shit and can't be assed to learn, they deserve to bleed and die.
>>714461926psi is tough at the start but you get ridiculously powerful at the end. Conserve psi hypos is the big thing no matter what. >>714494864>psi is tough at the startWhy do people say this? I'd say it's probably the easiest start of all because it gives the psi shield, agility and cryokinesis powers which are infinitely useful. I always start with OSA.

How's the sound design in SS2 remastered? One of the stand-out features of that game (and other dark engine games) is how good the sound design is. It's hard to explain, like you can close your eyes and the sounds and effects "feel 3D" like you can actually hear where they're coming from on the sound stage. Modern games over the past 25 years just don't compare for whatever reason, and all sound "flat" and don't have that 3D soundstage effect that SS2 and Thief have.
I'm not quite sure what the reasoning for this is, I've always assumed it had something to do with how dark engine games handle sound. So of course if they remake the game, I'm worried that this will be lost in translation and the iconic sound of the game will instead be "flat"
>>714495160I'll let you in on a secret, which is less told than most people think. AI is one facet of development which is very visible and marketed openly, but the fields of engineering, computer science and chemistry and more have always had hyperspecialization that you never quite hear about because its not your area. But AIs still fail massively.
Even in the 80s, plasma guns and railguns were already in workbenches, crude and experimental but the prototypes have always existed. Networks of spywork seem like fiction but in dictatorships, they exist plenty and in the most mundane ways, and even my family was spied on in the 70s, with rotary phones. Our house was personally bugged Anon, by an irrelevant country that went fascist. Its been 50 years since then, and the tech for that has only gotten better. If you know where to get it, you can get shit that makes nanny cams look like a fucking joke.
Industry and hyper specialization and engineering and better computer science have permitted us a level of knowledge and access to tech which is wonderful and horrible, but several hundred billions so far have done basically nothing for AI. Making generative video and audio is not amazing, audio started by a brony doing it for fun at the very earlier stages, if he can do it everyone else was supposed to have made it perfect by now, but the truth is they haven't. Some private use models are likely good but the truth is nothing about these GPTs is even close to what you believe an AI to be, and I repeat the most important thing you can learn.
They do not have short or long term memory, or both. They can't "learn" and remember like we do. And the moment they can emulate our process, it will be the most bloated thing you will ever see, terrabytes of utterly useless info and entire computer blocks of RAM for what you can do with less than 3 kilos of grey mass, sucking up a nuclear reactors worth of power and a small country worth of GPUs. Don't worry, AIs don't exist yet.

>>714500694Well, I donโt see what issue you could possibly have with the rapier, so I assume youโre talking about the fusion cannon. Itโs quite powerful, durable, and itโs ammo, in the second half of the game, is more common and cheaper than even standard bullets. That would make the expensive investment in heavy weapons worth it.

>>714497946>Laser Pistol C tier>EMP Rifle D Tier>Fusion Cannon and Laser Rapier A tierthe only tier you got right is the S tier and the Laser Pistol arguably belongs there as well
>>714497946I would rank
Assault rifle - Ridiculous endgame damage, lots of ammo. Basically a pistol on steroids
Pistol - Great starting weapon, lots of ammo.
Crystal shard - Very heavy melee damage.
Grenade launcher - Huge damage when modified. Fairly wide selection of ammo
Wrench - Carries you through MedSci and Engineering without haven't to use much ammo
Shotgun - I mainly use it for destroying eggs but pellets are great against spiders. Huge amounts of ammo too
Energy pistol - If you can abuse the overcharge glitch it's quite useful, but otherwise an inexpensive way of taking out lesser mechs
EMP Rifle - Serious mech damage but no damage at all to annelids and a high energy requirement
Laser rapier - Ineffective against annelids which is why I dislike it a bit. I usually don't melee the enemies it's effective against except for the midwife
and then of course all the other exotic weapons
>>714497946i know changing gameplay ids frowned upon but isnt there a mod that rebalances weapons?

Infinite ammo motherfuckers, it works even on mechs. I don't really care if its not optimal, that bitch is everywhere, easy to get, reliable through the entire ass game and worth having every single time.
>>714500887oh
you think you're so SMART
>>714501673oh forgot fusion cannon, I'll put that above rapier. It has a lot of ammo and with SCP the damage is significantly greater but the Heavy requirement is too high
>>714501715The entire SS2 remaster is built off of the SCP mod, which rebalances a lot of the guns from vanilla so you don't even need to buy the remaster to use it's versions of the weapons. There's a few other mods like Rosodude's weapon rebalances, and individual minimods.
>>714501885any that stand out and you would particularly reocmmend?
>>714501540The laser pistol has its advantages (durability and infinite and free ammo), but the fact stands that itโs the weakest weapon in the game.
The EMP rifle could easily be the best weapon in the game, if it didnโt affect only robots (80% of enemies in the game are biological). For a weapon that is useful only against a minority of enemies, the maximum investment required in energy weapons simply isnโt worth it
>>714463345I'm very happy that I wake up every day knowing I'm not this kind of person that rocks back and forth thinking there's trans flags in my cheerios.
>>714502008SCP is probably the best general purpose weapon buffing mod, if you want everything to generally be useful you can download that and it gives you a lot of fixes for the game in general. There's also a few mods like the stasis trap mod which makes the stasis field generator an AoE type deal, its still shitty but it makes it marginally more useful. One of the coolest mods for the game is SECMOD though, it overhauls the entire weapon mod system where you get to choose what you actually upgrade on a gun when you modify it (you can have full auto shotguns, and laser pistols, and fusion cannons, ect) and it even adds new weapons to the game (an aliens Smartgun for standard, a flamethrower for heavy, and a plasma smg for energy)
>>714502312sounds good, thank you!
>>714502067>The laser pistol has its advantages (durability and infinite and free ammo), but the fact stands that itโs the weakest weapon in the game. After a certain level of investment the overcharged mode will oneshot most trash mobs in the game so all you really 'spend' to kill those is a small bit of weapon durability. In a game where resource management is key that is incredibly powerful in it's own right, not to mention you can take multiple of them with an energy weapons character, so you can rapid fire the overcharged mode as fast as you can swap between each laser pistol.
>The EMP rifle could easily be the best weapon in the game, if it didnโt affect only robots (80% of enemies in the game are biological). At mod level 2 and set to the alt fire mode it oneshots literally every mech in the game aside from the SHODAN head, and the latter half of the game is mostly mechs outside of BOTM. it's not a gun you should take on every build but it's cracked on the ones that it fits into, it's like B tier at the absolute worst.
>>714502715>they can be good if you use them in this specific and quirky way!!Sure, but that is true even for the useless Stasis generator. Meanwhile, the high ranking weapons are good out of the box, no tricks, glitches or even upgrades needed
>meanwhile, on /v/on braun...

>>714500887Both games' fatal flaw is their story and main plot beats. They are absolutely filled with plot holes that if you think about them for more than five minutes stop making sense entirely.
>how did the tiny little car transport take the hacker from earth to citadel in what seems like a matter of moments, while Diego talks on call with him like it's happening over the course of an hour>how is the mining laser able to even hit earth from in orbit around Saturn, how fucking powerful is this thing? What's the travel time on the laser?>at the speed of light it takes 1 hour 20 mins to travel to Saturn from Earth, the laser hits seemingly instantly and the little car transport definitely doesn't have light speed travel>how did the jettisoned grove make it to Tau Ceti in 42 years and make it there ahead of the FTL travelling Von Braun (retconned to fix the plot hole by mentioning a wormhole existing near Saturn in the SS1 remake)>where were Rebecca and Tommy going to go in the escape pod? Yeah sure it may have had cryogenic freezers but it isn't FTL, it would likely have run out of power or drifted endlessly in space Aliens style until being picked up hundreds (thousands?) of years later if it was still even on course for EarthWhoever wrote any of this shit had no idea how distances work in space.

>>714497946>>714514641This, the pistol is god tier for it's required point investment and the wrench can wreck shit for no skill investment.

>>714517069its classic imsim with labyrinthian levels. As for scary levels its completely subjective. I play though multiple alien isolation runs with its VR mod so Shock 1 remake felt more like when I played through Prey in VR
I like how no one mentions how frustrating needing to mix chemicals across multiple zones to progress, needlessly wasting hours and hours backtracking for the right combination to continue the game.
Prefontaine's nature documentary logs inside the body of the many are iconic. What a chad keeping his cool to analyze the enemy.
>>714463076>Not just STR + AGILITY maxxing and whacking everything with this beauty
Am I losing my mind or do the chemicals stack in the remaster and they didn't used to in the original game? Been a while since I played the original.
Why did they make shodan a female tho
>>714517521They're more evil.
>>714517314all the chem rooms are so easy and fast to access from the elevator that it is a non issue. Literally less then a minute per level. Its more of an ass inside the body of the many where its several ruined rooms in separate parts of the map
>>714516875what would SS3 even be about? Shodan betrays you again?
>>714463345The way they keep glorifying communism put me off. Do we really want audio logs every five feet talking about the joy of unity in a game for kids?
>>714517173Possibly, though I have my issues with the remake, but admittedly it might be my love for the original game that gets in the way of most of them. They should take more notes from Prey in terms of recycling and level design with an SS3
>>714517316dont really know what they did to him when they "ate" him. was he sent into one of the crushers rooms that consumes bodies to be morphed into eggs? the final log is just outside the big annelid brain boss room though

>>714517710What about SHODAN has character development and actually becomes an ally and not just faking it for half of the game then you get to marry her and make her happy.
>>714517802His last log has him being dropped in a dark room full of teeth or whatever, then there's a crushing sound, and he screams. Pretty clear he got mulched up in there like the woman he was describing earlier.
>>714517885Nah, it would end up on some kind of other space station, like Sevastopol from Ayylium Isolation where it's unique in some way. Earth would basically be a 'cool, there's no way to beat her' situation, like if The Many made it there.
>>714517710Back when it was first announced there were some fun threads theorizing it. Like Shodan/Rebecca gets put into some space station prison but she escapes containment.
>>714518019>shobecca turns space prison into his robo S&M dungeon

>How can you choose 2d over the splendor of the 3dp?
>>714518221A better writer than I am could make an interesting point of how Shodan, despite hating humanity, tries to imitate it. In the first game she's like a case of pareidolia with a face emerging from the wires. In 2 she has an actual face and even a body. In the last trailer for 3 she's very human in her animation.
>>714518276Well, where else could she have gone in the escape pod? As was said it would take hundreds or thousands of years to get anywhere without the Von Braun, though I guess she could technically maybe pop back through the wormhole the grove came through and come out near Saturn.
>>714518605her hypocrisy is the best. she is very human, after all.
>>714504582EMP Rifle is good not only against robots, but also against cyborg assassins, which are the most dangerous common enemy in the game.

Looking Glass games have a huge problem with a large portion of the fan base missing the point and failing to grasp the soul of a game, which then turns into horrible shit feedback by plebs that dumbs down or makes a future game in the series worse.
It happened with Thief where all the ttlg faggots said it had too much supernatural stuff, then Looking Glass overcorrected and sanitized Thief 2 until it had half of the gameplay variety of the original. And it happened with SS1/SS2's soundtrack with people saying they play the games with the soundtrack off because it's "better that way", which is how you end up with BioShock's or the System Shock Remake's soundtrack being completely unmemorable.

>>714495903>And the moment they can emulate our process, it will be the most bloated thing you will ever see, terrabytes of utterly useless info and entire computer blocks of RAM for what you can do with less than 3 kilos of grey mass, sucking up a nuclear reactors worth of power and a small country worth of GPUsThis is pretty much why even though we have models that won ImageNet competitions and why a large part of basic computer vision is 'solved', its still not nearly worth using so much processing power for something that any human being can look at and say "that is a [color] [brand] car, probably from [year of make] driving at [time of day]" while also being able to specify numerous other aspects if you asked them.
Workplace-demands are so rarely simple. Retarded MBAs might believe they are because they're guillable retards. Humans interact with numerous interfaces depending on their work, job or lifestyle. We're like at stage 1 of getting the absolute basics down at doing one task, barely interfacing and passing information through programmed scripts that aren't dynamic. Sci-Fi is really bad at demonstrating how research and development usually works because they use one "breakthrough" as an umbrella to fit something which is a technically complex layered problem. It's supposed to date things and keep world-building simple, which actually makes it a good way to do that. It just doesn't match up to real life.
System Shock as a whole is massively far ahead whenever you look at even the smallest thing you could think of in the game technology wise.

There are Christine's which are excellent, you're probably familiar with that name if you play a lot of Thief FMs, her SS2 ones are largely considered the best (Ponterbee Station, UNN Nightwalker, UNN Polaris, Urlaub). Outside of hers, there's really only Return to the UNN and The Minstrel kinda as far as big campaigns go. The rest of the ones that exist are basically one off levels that you can beat in like 20 minutes, you can find them all on the Systemshock.org forum.

It's just you stand at the door and hear things.
You don't want to go there, but you know you must, there's no other way.
I can't think of any other game that conveyed this "I don't want to go there, but I must, so I reluctantly will".

>>714517173I disagree, judging by the remake.
I can broadly agree NigDive's heart is in the right place, it's just their gaydiz hands are crooked.
They tried to retcon SS1 in being the prequel to SS2 and did a passable job at that.
They might do a passable job on a hypothetical SS3, but that would be like Romero's ep. 5 of Doom at best.
However, nothing stops NigDive from making a legally distinct SS3 in all but name.
Nothing, except for money and talent, basically just like anybody else.

>>714530579>The interesting thing about SS2 horror is not that you're hampered by tank controls, awkward aiming, lack of bullets, scairy lighting or jumpscares.I recently picked up the remaster after not playing for around 6-ish years (i think)? I ended up jumpscared by a random hybrid in the starting floor despite the music blaring and the camera going full alert like usual. Not cause he jumped at me but because he made a sound after getting behind me sneakily. Feels like home.
>>714531883While below zero is strangely claustrophobic, the vanilla game isn't.
Depths, the supposed hostile environment, are as hostile as they are in Dave the Diver.
It's all a matter of equipment.
I think this is why they went for a different vibe (well, and the tired cliche of a sassy girlboss) in the DLC.
I'd say that Subnautica is closer to a metroidvania in this sense (as an essentially crafry-buildy game) than to the hermetic sci-fi horror of SS2.
I guess some locations of Stardew Valley is also scary to some people, or bears in Raft.
