It feels kinda... monotonous. Very slowburn. Not a whole lot of sudden chaos going on but you can still die to something dumb like a level filled to the brim with security bots or to your own BFG splash, and it doesn't feel like "HOLY SHIT WHAT THE FUCK WAS THAT HAHAHAHAHAHAHA", more like "Right. I guess I'll be more careful nex- *uninstalls the game*". Though I'm also the kind of person who doesn't really like slow roguelikes, so maybe it's not for me.
My personal favorite roguelike is called Rogue's Tale. It's much faster and the deaths in it are far more absurd and rapid. Losing in it leaves me shellshocked more often than annoyed, which is the case for JH and some other community darlings like Tales of Maj'Eyal.

It's just a good adventure to go on and have fun with.

Silly "parody" setting where everything revolves around murderhobos and grinding for loot, silly one-dimensional characters, "Can't be helped" said several times throughout the game, but it's not the "Well THAT just happened" kind, it's earnest enough to make you play along and feel invested. It takes itself seriously enough to not ruin immersion.

The quest design and puzzles are fairly normal. They don't feel too obscure or convoluted, you don't have to look up any solutions. Combat isn't anything super special, but it's nice. It's overall very well paced in my opinion, nothing drags on for too long, nothing overstays its welcome. Even the grind is pretty lax because the more you kill - the more enemies spawn, so you never really just "go through the motions", you're constantly in the heat of the fight. And the grinding process isn't long either. Game did itself a disservice calling itself Grindea.

I watched the anime of RoLW because of Freiren and wasn't a fan desu.

Ys to me always felt like a "B-team" JRPG. Like one of those games you play if you've caught up with your backlog and want something to play but not something you'd go out of your way to play if that makes sense.

Ys IX has a lot of QoL improvements over VIII if you're someone that goes straight to inferno difficulty blind on first playthrough. Otherwise VIII is a safer bet to play if you haven't already. It's a solid action rpg and anyone familiar with party based Ys knows exactly what they're getting into.
Deedlit in Wonderland is a Team Ladybug joint, another game where if you played anything else they made, you know what you're getting into - a game with solid mechanics with the major fault being how short and easy it is. Again, worth it if you liked anything else they made.

Expeditions Conquistador is the good one. With each new iteration the games become more and more like a dumbed down phone game, until finally after Rome they just made actual phone games. I've only played the first Mafia back in the day, it was a good linear TPS with open world as a background, there was precisely fuck all side activities. That's not condemnation, just a clarification.
Selaco has a chunky packed campaign, 12-14 hours on the first go. There is basically no plot at this point, so you aren't getting any cliffhangers, except that they blueball you with a mech boss fight at the end. The gameplay is exceptional, although some get frustrated at having to play around obfuscation like dust and smokes.

VA-11 HALL-A is a tough one to recommend at anything other than a steep discount. It's a slice-of-life VN in a cyberpunk setting, but it's focused on the mundane side of things. The "gameplay" loop is standing in a bar listening to people yap about whatever, very infrequently actually making drinks, and then between work shifts you sit around your dumpy apartment scrolling the internet. There's some charm and a kind of through-line to the story and its characters, but it doesn't really go anywhere by the time it ends.

Onechanbara games are pretty similar, though their lewd outfits are more ecchi game than kpop pin up.
Senran Kagura Estival Versus, Shinovi Versus and Burst are good for fan service while also still being fun action games. I can't speak for the quality of their pc ports though.
Bloody Spell is a surprisingly fun game with a decent amount of lewd unlocks and workshop mods.
She Will Punish Them is further away gameplay wise than all of these, but it's a pin up styled action game with engaging enough progression and plenty of mods.

I'll echo the Huniepop games. The first one has the best girls and sexual content IMO; just make sure you download the patch and aren't expecting much more than a few CGs of each girl. Huniepop 2 is the better GAME, but it's a significant downgrade in terms of girls. Huniecam Studio is the odd one out with no nudity and a completely different gameplay genre, but it's still fun for a few rounds working out the best strategy. Bayonetta drives me up the wall with its fugly filters and horrid minigames. The core gameplay is great, but the combo offset mechanic is kinda arcane, and meant to excite action game veterans.
If you want an approachable action game, Metal Gear Rising is the thing, just make sure to learn the parry input at the start of the second mission, it's flick direction + attack. DMC1 and 3 are fine starting points too.

Blasphemous is an alright metroidvania. All of them come with caveats, and this one plays a bit stiffly. If you really like the setting, go for it. Otherwise try Castlevania Advance collection for the classics, or for something modern and smooth, Ori (focus on platforming) or Guacamelee (focus on combat). Hollow Knight is excellent, but also gargantuan in scope. Not in the sense of complexity, but length. May be a phenomenal adventure to have as your first metroidvania, I dunno.

Jupiter Hell is really approachable as far roguelikes go, and the combat has a surprising sense of impact. You can also try DoomRL for free, the predecessor to it. A bit more complex, but still welcoming for the genre. I've had over 100 hours poured in each one, the way they mark your achievements with medals and ranks is a great motivator.

I haven't finished it, but so far it seems to be a bit better at every con I listed. I am not a huge fan of the girls only boarding school setting + occult aesthetic over the glitchy bugged computer style of the original personally, but it's definitely still unique enough to be eye catching. I also appreciate that it is taking steps to get you to like all the characters in the school and has enough self respect to treat the mystery aspect as an actual mystery with a lot of red herrings or potential answers floating around, most games don't really do even that bare minimum. The girls themselves while still anime stylised tropes surprisingly react and behave realistically as well, so far the story seems to have as great a start as the first game.

Honestly I'm more interested in the next game that's turning the series into a mystery dungeon game since I don't actually like the Neptunia style combat system at all. by the way, there are hidden Ace pilots in almost every mission so keep an eye on the overall map for a stray jet by itself. chase it, kill, finish the mission and you get a cool skin.

I have over 150 hours in it and i just did story and some of the abilities. The game is huge, brings new things to the table throughout the game like drone building and taming creatures. The community for the game on /vst/ is super helpful. And if you want to know the scale of what you can do imagine this. There is this character that has a class called berserker. The idea of it is that the moment she is attacked she goes closer to the enemy that attacked her, if its close enough she attacks, if she kills she goes again searching for the next target, if she has berserker stacks she can't go below 1 hp. Basically she is a one man army on the enemy turn. Huge investment but really fun.

The only thing i can say to this is that if the mechanics of it hooks you then it won't matter how long the mission will take. Sometimes its worth it for missions to take long because that means that there are a lot of enemies on the map and you want to get their abilities. Game has both equipment and abilities that work kind of like a deck, them having synergies between each other and giving stronger effects if you know which ones you can pair. Also i think that all the abilities the enemies can get you can also get.

Shadow Warrior reboots. The first game boils down to spamming two special moves in the end game, but you might get some enjoyment out of it, there was a lot of effort put into it. The second one has a bunch of melee weapons, but I was preoccupied with actually good guns this time.
Pretty sure Jedi Outcast and Academy can be played with lightsaber in first person, although the game defaults to 3rd person.
Killing Floor games have dedicated melee classes.
Elderborn exists, I have an eye on it but never got to trying myself.
