I know this topic has been discussed to death already, but I really feel like Deltarune is leaning into a theme about how "freedom" in video games is largely relegated to "freedom to commit violence."
This is obvious in the Legend of Tenna secret boss stuff, where Ramb boasts about this original game having far more freedom despite it being much more linear and limited- the only change being the ability to kill. And of course with the Weird Route, which people cite as the only way to divert from the main story, but the only way to attain this freedom is through violence and generally bad shit.
And even back in Chapter 1, while Jevil's whole thing is about embracing his own freedom and believing he can do anything, he only ever used that freedom to sew chaos and violent games. And his line in prison about "[he] grew lonely in [his] little freedom" feels like. Like there's something to that.
