He just comes across as kind of forced without adding much as he isn't very talkative outside of a few lines here and there in story missions. He needed to have more voice work sprinkled throughout doing random missions or whatever

Beat it yesterday.
I WILL rebuy it for PC, AND buy DS2 directors cut when it drops.
I took a shower like three minutes ago
>>714766587 (OP)I'm never playing this because I don't have a PS5 and hear even fans of the original hated this one.
What's the story on Dollman? Why is he a doll? How does this make any sense?
>>714766842Thatโs bullshit because Iโve seen a lot of people saying they get a bunch of roads fully built after they link up a region. If I get one section of a road done Iโm lucky.
>>714767348Not releasing DS2 day one on PC as well was a mistake imo, its very much an autism sim for the PC audience. DS1 was much better recieved on PC than PS4
>>714767389Guy was a spirit medium when he was alive, he and his daughter were killed by ghosts while trying to communicate with his dead wife, he felt his kids soul was trying to hold on to life and fixating on the doll she had with her so he forcibly willed himself into it to push her soul away and allow it to pass beyond the Beach (the Beach is basically the games name for something roughly equivalent to Limbo, the place between life and death)
He's stuck with his soul bound to it, forever
Why did the conjoined 4000 souls and APAS suddenly want to become a god and oversee humanity?
>>714766715Whatโs funny is I put off building roads for a couple hours just to play through the main missions around Mountain Knot and some dickheads finished building a couple roads. I like building them myself, Iโm one of the few autists that actually enjoys building roads. Sometimes I wish I could disable the Strand stuff. Could always play offline I guess
>>714767917That wasnโt Ps4 vs PC thing, that was โgame eventually got accepted for what it was, rather than what people convinced themselves it was going to be based off trailersโ.

>>714768545was thinking this too. thereโs something fun about being retarded and not being able to carry out a mission smoothly but seeing it through to the end anyway. figuring shit out on the go is where the game is peak. shame thatโs lost on the midwits getting filtered by this game

Did Lindsay Wagner have some legal thing about her likeness speaking. It was pretty weird how Amelie never said a word at the end
>>714768843Whoops, looks like you attached some unrelated superfluous images to your meme, that do not contribute to the punchline or meaning! I took the liberty of fixing it for you. No need to thank me.
>>714768478The godlike being of extinction putting all the pieces conveniently in place is pretty much the same thing as the first game, where that is also the case
DS2 has failed to justify its existence for me. I really wonder why Kojima felt like he needed to make a sequel. There's literally a single thematic addition (which you could've possibly already gleaned from the first game), and the story is just a sequence of events that's just about the in the moment excitement of something finally happening after 10 2 minute cutscenes of Rainy or Fragile having short talks with Tomorrow
>that moment when Tomorrow sends Sam a message thanking him for always supporting her when all he did was grunt at her and leave a couple times
>>714769218Yea but there would be no reason for Amelie to not have included that in her end of DS1 exposition dump. (Btw Lou's your child lol)
>>714766587 (OP)I like this little guy. He is a good sidekick. He gives good insight during missions and otherwise he only talks when I want him to.
>>714769304DS2 doesn't have to justify shit to anyone. In fact it goes out of its way not to.
>>714769304Kojima wanted to refine the gameplay of DS1, that's why he made DS2. Contrary to popular belief he actually isn't that obsessed with making movies, he likes game mechanics and systems and always have. DS2 is clearly the team getting more familiar with the Decima engine and the PS5 and doing stuff they couldn't with the first game.
>>714767361Why are you gay?
>>714769086Probably, or Kojima didn't want another actor to play her, but I can't imagine a famous hollywood actor being too happy about the idea of somebody else voicing their body

Okay... I'll admit it.
That was kino
>>714769517>Kojima wanted to refine the gameplay of DS1, that's why he made DS2.ok so where is the refined gameplay? trivialising walking and making the whole game vehicle centric (with vehicle controls that feel just as scuffed as the first time around) = refinement?

Dynamic weather
Better stealth
Better combat
More vehicles
More gadgets
Better controls
Just less jank overall
DS2 makes DS1 feel like a rough draft
>>714766587 (OP)DS2 is a downgrade in every way. The maps were made so that there are. No bottlenecks into difficult areas. Transporting packages is trivial, even before the truck is available.
The clients are worse with fewer item variants for some reason.
Combat is easier
The game literally plays itself
Combat was made easier to the point it's trivial.
Dynamic weather is a useless feature.
I thought he would expand the interesting parts of DS1 and use what he learned to create meaningful maps that challenge you and have various but meaningful and difficult route options that you have to plan for.
Instead he just made the same game but easier. Such a shame.
>>714769749how is walking trivialized? it's almost exactly the same but now you can unlock short range alyx gloves. oh and you can add one floating carrier to the zipline.
The loading times are way snappier, and the UX has way less downtime (THE UCA THANKS U!!;;) and confirmations - so more porting and less fighting menus.
>whole game is vehicle centricthat's bullshit hyperbole - though I agree you can cheese a lot of main quest deliveries with vehicles. calling it "centric" when you have tons of options at your disposal for traversal is just stupid.
have you actually played the game?
>>714769749kojidrines are retarded slop enjoyers who spend more time justifying why their shit is actually super duper good and awesome than they spend "playing" his "games"

I was getting 100% in DS1 cause I'm waiting for the PC release.
It's a great experience but the one thing I hate are these fucking bridges to nowhere. Look at this shit, it's right on top of the path. They are everywhere and have a million likes. I expand to a new area, set up some ziplines, and they pop out of nowhere to block the connection. When I delete one, another one appears in the exact same place. Holy fuck, I hope the sequel does it better.
>>714770163i noticed a weird patern with sam as well. he barely talks or has any personality. in the first game he would actualy talk with preppers directly.
in this game most of the talking is done by dollman for some reason
>>714769591Amelie already wasn't voiced by Lindsay Wagner, she only voiced Bridget

>Dynamic weatherI've encountered a sandstorm a total of two times in 80h playtime, and ds1 also already had moving timefall zones that would sometimes be there and other times not
>Better stealth"better" doesn't say anything. better according to who? you just sit around in stealth, sneak up to mules and then press O behind them now instead of L2 and R2 with the strand, that's just horizon level stealth
>better combataccording to who? ds1 actually forced you to diversify because every single weapon wasn't magically non lethal, not to mention you didn't even get guns until later. I felt like I needed to throw cargo into a mule's face exactly zero times in ds2, and now you can just block any attack even without the strand equip. more shallow combat = better?
>more vehicles yea more overpowered options to trivialise going on foot such as the insanely broken coffin board
>more gadgets that have less individuality because now you can just use almost anything against everyone. no need to prep for mules or bts specifically because of magic bullets
>better controlsoh, you mean Sam barely ever loses balance anymore and that makes the game better because "it was so tedious to have to interact with the game's core system"?
>less Hanktrikes still get stuck on pebbles
>DS2 makes DS1 feel like a rough draftyea because ds1 has rough terrain to navigate whereas ds2 is just mostly flat, vehicles friendly surfaces and slopes
people who say things are better always just say "umm it's better" like they're saying that purely on impulse without actually having any thoughts regarding it

I was seriously hoping that at the end after Fragile was revealed to be dead, Sam would just explode and lash out at everybody else's stupidity, like a kino emotional outburst and fuck off with his young adult daughter and vindicate my feelings.

>>714766587 (OP)I hate how this doll character was just a narrative device so that low IQ people could understand the plot. Literally yapping about every flashback and recapping even the first game. When way too late dollman's personality and backstory is explained it is just moderately interesting. The whole Ka/Ha stuff was just a cop-out to make things like Fragile's fate be possible to milk extra tears out. At least it was used once in a good way to give Deadman the closure he deserves.
4/10, annoying plot device
>>714772453yea I absolutely hated dollman. what a fucking waste of a character.

>>714767280I feel like Dollman would have been great for a few specific missions, but he is kind of unecessary in the day-to-day deliveries. I guess at least it means Sam isn't on his own with his grief as a father who has lost his child.
>>714772453>hate how this doll character was just a narrative device so that low IQ people could understand the plot.that doesn't happen, he is a councilor mainly and rarely narrates
>The whole Ka/Ha stuff was just a cop-outthey are the concepts which underlie the sci-fi logic of death stranding, including the first game. it sounds like you barely understand the mechanics behind it and it was heavily used and explained since the first game.
>>714772748I can forgive it. people do retarded shit when in mourning and depressed (eg Sam seppukud again and again). That event is also why Dollman is extra qualified to be sam's councilor, he has been through a very similar experience and knows what it means and feels to be in mourning.
>>714772616Why did you post footage of Mario Kart World?
>>714772660Does it really infuriate you seeing people discuss a game this much? Sounds like a miserable life to lead
>>714770156>DS2 makes DS1 feel like a rough draftDS2 feels dumb for having the DHV Magellan everywhere. it's a discount motherbase without the accommodations and atmosphere of the motherbase. the whole tar ship is too small and the people on it have no personality, aside from Fragile and the captain.
My self build bunker in depopulated area near a mule camp had more soul in the first game. I feel all DS2 did was oversimplify aspects that made the first game fun. Combat is way to easy now.
>>714772273I found a piss grenade during a bt boss, they're out there somewhere

>>714772587Well if it bothers you, dismantle it.
>I can't be bothered, it's tediousThen just let people have likes, how does it affect you?
>>714772960>mourning and depressed (eg Sam seppukud again and again). That event is also why Dollman is extra qualified to be sam's councilortoo bad he never actually councils except a the very very start when you first embark with him, and everything he says afterwards is just

>>714772960Thanks for not reading my post and jumping straight to the reply box! I can see English is not your first language.
>>714772960Unfortunately he is somewhat right, Dollman does do a lot of what DS1 did a lot with Die Hardman, him immediately chiming in to talk about something you just watched in a cutscene 30 seconds earlier, and he's also often prone to being Tutorial Man, like "SAM, YOUR BULLETS DON'T SEEM TO BE DOING MUCH, MAYBE HE'S VULNERABLE TO MELEE?" shit
How do Likes actually work in this game?
For example. I am trying to build a road, I saw that to upgrade it, I need to give 1k+ Crystals, 3k+ Metals, and 4k+ Ceramics. I give tons of those materials only leaving let's say around 300 each for metals and ceramics. Then I come back the next day and I saw that still isn't upgraded or no one gave it anything. So I finish it. Then when the road gets made. It's not in my name. It's by someone else and you can suddenly see that so many people contributed. But from what I've been playing at, the materials I gave where almost the max. Even the game said I gave enormous amounts of materials.
>Sam please get a new vehicle, it's close to malfunctioning
>"Nuh uh"
>Play with the same beaten up off road jeep for 6 more hours
>Still works
????
>>714773174unlike DS1 there's no meaningful interaction to be had with terrain in this game by going on foot because it's MOSTLY just flat surfaces with no real features so the only difference is that you hold the analog stick forward for longer. also "just don't use it" is such a retarded argument, it's the game designers responsibility to nudge people toward an enjoyable playstyle and make the experience one that isn't mindless. in ds2 the experience it mindless whether you go on foot or vehicle, and I did in fact use the coffin board as little as possible because of how disgustingly overpowered it was, and I have the right to critique the developer for putting such a braindead overpowered tool in the game
>>714773035I personally loved the Magellan even though I rarely used it for deliveries (it's invaluable for materials transport though). I really like the camaraderie between the small crew, each felt like they serve an important role and I cherished each time I heard the DHV tune, especially towards the end.
Is the DHV the tune a version of the initial part of the BB theme whistle?
Is there a point restoring a road/monorail on a place that's not yet up in the chiral network? Yes you'll give all the materials needed. But when it goes up, you don't get the name for it. In fact, it seems like it's not going up to the actual network between players or whatever. Basically it's getting no likes.
>>714772960when the fuck does he ever council?
>>714770397For me, itโs the boost signs on the roads. I love just driving a truck in the first person โcompass viewโ without boosting because it makes the game feel like Truck Simulator but then these fucking boost signs just fucking ruin the mood for me and when I delete one two more take its place. Then thereโs the roads near MULE/terrorist camps that have those annoying screeches when they detect you when Iโm just driving by them. Hearing that shit every time I drive past those areas gets old incredibly fast
>>714770406I donโt remember Sam talking to the preppers much
>>714773221NTA, I just answered your question, I don't mind liking structures, I give 1000 a lot of the time in fact

>>714773579revisionism from DS2 haters
>>714773486>>714773215Maybe it just filtered me, but on Motherbase I felt even a connection to the soldiers I fulton'ed out and they had small banter I could listen in on. Animated scene transitions and tokenizing movement into animation loops shouldn't happen anymore in a pro model console era with x86_64 PC guts inside and fully fleshed out NVME drives running oodle compressed game archives streaming at 2500MB/s.
I am an enthusiast and modern consoles can handle this shit now. Why am I unable to move freely around my base? Even cross-gen shit 2015 allowed me more movement freedom. Apart from the chopper in MGSV the base felt open with little loads once you dropped into Afghan/Africa it was the same. Blyat yes Afghan, not Afghan"istan".
>>714770612this.
Online structures come in handy now and then but, fuck, they really trivialize building structures yourself which I feel is one of the core aspects of the game

>>714773579He doesn't really. Been playing through the part with the Crasftman/Elder/etc and I think he speaks to them for a single sentence, if that.
Not even when they give him at a star.
>>714773262yeah he does that a lot.
What I disagreed with was that he was a puppet which serves as a means to understand the plot, he never explains what is going on iirc.
I agree that he repeats some of the things that happens on screen.
>>714773504mostly at the start and at the end when he gave Sam the talk. part of it is just being there for Sam too.
>>714773896I always view the other structures (namely roads/ziplines) as a reward after getting to a certain point with the network. The game absolutely is it's best when you're having to traverse over hostile territory though, I agree. Not being quite sure what you'll find, whether BTs or MULEs, and having to manage the load you're carrying.
>>714773940nta but that is a silly question when you have a three weapon loadout and yes mgs5 fucking forces you to leave the mountains, enter a base or tunnel and do cqc and tranq pistol gameplay in objective areas. i feel you are cherry picking at this point. of course a good dev forces you to adopt multiple play styles. want some pentazemin, noctocyanin, c4 and dummy in your loadout to have an easier mission? fine. but don't pretend there is one playstyle only.
>>714773338Not sure how the player names work. But you still get likes regardless of whose name the road is under. I think that other player just has contributed more resources overall, from building it to repairing it, of all the players in the โserverโ you two were put together in. But, again, you still get likes for other players using the road anyway, so I donโt see why the game needs to assign gamertags to the roads in the first place
>>714773932I'm obviously a different anon who also thinks that dollmans role as a supposed counselor was piss poor
>>714772173>>714768478It's the classic "story makes the protagonist, not the way around". Sure, Sam is a repatriate, but the point is that he lived all his life, he is probably on his late 40s, this was the first time he became the protagonist and it's because Amelie started the Last Stranding war, so she chose Sam as the champion of life and Higgs the champion of death. The "suicide" could have been triggered by Higgs. They would have known Sam0s location and also known that Igor was carrying the BB-28 which was actually BB-00
>>714773940>you control the buttons you pressgreatest dimwit argument ever conceived
People hate Dollman? I thought he was good. Not too snarky or quippy, yes he's obviously a tutorial/exposition character but that's quite literally what the game tells you he is, he's there to help and support Sam and that's what he does. He's a bro.

>>714773726Unrelated but I love how nice everyone is to Sam. Even the occasional dickhead or two has Die-Hardman chime in and apologize on their behalf. I miss when NPCs were nice to the player. I feel like games nowadays have this obsession with insulting the player constantly
>>714774353>having zero personality and just regurgitating things you've already been told is good because umm the game tells you he's tutorial man therefore it's not in fact a wasted opportunityok bro. supporting someone is more than just reminding them that their sniper is in fact loud.

>>714774165That is true. I always try to make the most of the main deliveries, particularly when they send me to a new center/shelter. Never really minded his presence and thought it was well balanced, it was nowhere near Navi or that bracelet from Forspoken.
I really don't get why people think he is a narrative or exposition device, he did not have any special knowledge so he was not in a position or expertise to explain or advance the plot, and iirc he never did. Im open to be proven wrong though.

And speaking of Higgs, there's a chance that we'll encounter him too, since he is the one who kidnapped Tomorrow and brought her to this beach to trigger the Last Stranding, as you might recall. >>714778325You can download a map bigger than DS2's with more detail from Epic's website for free and run it in UE5. There is nothing impressive about an empty world with nothing in it. It's trivial to create with todays technology.
Everything in DS2 is better, bar the story.
It's just far too predictable, and didn't deliver on the "SHOULD WE HAVE CONNECTED?" theme at all. It was asked and answered in one cutscene
>>714779182>From all reports, both DS games are actually pretty well scoped and not money sinks with budgets around the 100m mark which isn't small but isn't outrageous like a lot of AAA junkThat's the power of good management and not treating your employees like shit. Kojima not only works with the best talent in the industry, they actually stick around. Just look at how many of his coworkers followed him when he left Konami, legitmately unprecedented. People clearly love working for Kojima. Compare this to Naughty Dog, which is infamous for terrible management and burning through employees. Last of Us Part 2 had a budget of at least 220 million dollars, probably more. Naughty Dog's reputation is so terrible in the game industry that they actually had to hire CGI movie artists as animators, because industry talent literally avoid ND like the plague.
Basically if you hire talented individuals, you don't need to hire 100 retards to do the same job, which also costs more. But that also requires treating employees like human beings.
>>714779334no, nothing is revolutionary for DS2, I never claimed anything it did was, not even for graphics even though I think it is the best looking AAA since RDR and TLOU2, both of which still trumps it in animation quality imo.
DS2 had better set pieces than both though, and it was more organically beautiful too.
I think the Battlefield clip looks good for its time, but I think it's obvious how much more detail there is in the DS2 clip, difference in lighting quality is also easily apparent. Not to mention the BF3 clips uses 2019 hardware so that's a bit unfair.
>>714766895I asked. I care.
God forbid people talk about the game in a thread dedicated to talking about the game.
>>714766715Some of the asynchronous multiplayer stuff is definitely faked, or you have to contribute stuff before other's contributions register. So many times I tried to upgrade somebody's structure from level 1 to 3 and I level it to 2, go back to get the materials for the next level and by the time I get back it's at level 3 despite being at level 1 and nearly destroyed for days.
How did Lou grow up on the beach considering time barely passes? Spent 2 million years there?
And how was Lou capable of learning speech at all, and especially as an adult, if she hasn't spoken to anyone in Millennia?
It's pretty much empirically proven, that children who grow up without language will be developmentally stunted for the rest of their lives, something Kojima even acknowledged in MGSV "language, the bedrock for any developing child"
This story barely goes anywhere but it's like he made sure that anywhere it does go, it's a massive plot hole.

>>714780125That's not even a bad thing. You could have tripled DS's budget and made it look even better, maybe had filled the world with fully simulated NPCs walking around the world, populated towns and random encounters, maybe done the whole void out crater thing dynamically, and what would it get you? Would it make a game that sold 5x as much to justify the money?
MGS5 was the same. That wasn't a radically powerful engine, hell it was created for PS3s, and had limitations accordingly - but concentrated efforts on a great lighting system and it feeling like a dream to control, so it didn't cost a gazillion dollars and earned back every cent it cost to make day one.

Kojima should make the games streamer friendly. Streamers have a big influence on the gaming ecosystem, word of mouth from streamers helped Clair Obscur alot.
DS2 is so gigantic that there's not enough cutscenes to fill in the parts, viewers just watch the streamer deliver things, sure, sometimes they get bothered by BTs or the Armed Survivalists but most of the time they are just watching something that is fun to play but not fun to watch.
The early MGS games are more streamer friendly because they are barely 10-20h games, you can finish it in one stream, maybe 2 if you are really bad.
