This is something I've been meaning to mention. I dunno whether this is actually really obvious and people have figured it out already, but I'm going to go ahead and say it anyway.
No character in deltarune has free will, everything a character says and does is predetermined by the plot. As far as the idea that there's some inescapable prophecy goes, that's completely enabled by that fact.
That's what makes use unique. We're the one thing in the game that can actually make choices. We know this because we're actually capable of loading different saves and seeing ourselves make different choices in the game. It's literally one of the first things we got told in Deltarune is how wonderful our choices are. Because the fact we're able to make them is an actual power compared to the other characters.
If there's a reason Kris has agreed to carry us around and let us control him. There's a very good chance its because our ability to make choices is everyone's one hope of fighting the prophecy.
