To be fair, you have to have a very high IQ to understand Death Stranding. The gameplay is extremely subtle, and without a solid grasp of the trigger buttons most of the traversal will go over a typical gamer's head. There's also Kojima's nihilistic outlook, which is deftly woven into his writing - his personal philosophy draws heavily from Hollywood movies, for instance. The fans understand this stuff; they have the intellectual capacity to truly appreciate the depths of these references, to realize that they're not just films - they say something deep about LIFE. As a consequence people who dislike Death Stranding truly ARE idiots- of course they wouldn't appreciate, for instance, the meaning behind Amelie's existential catchphrase "Like Mario and Princess 'Beach'" which itself is a cryptic reference to videogame classic, Super Mario Bros. 2. I hate facescanning. I don't want realism in the majority of my games. Realism is shit compared to the idealistic things you can create with hand drawn art. Games were much better when you made actual characters instead of just hiring actors to play characters. You end up with Normie Reetus as your character, not an actual character people will remember. It's also way too uncanny valley, even with the advancements. It takes me out of the game. A character, like Tifa, wouldn't be as iconic if she was just some foid that was scanned into a game. You need to actually design a character and not take the shortcut of just scanning in a real person or else it fails to stand the test of time.
