There were a fuckton of live service and multiplayer Flash games, which is probably the peak of game complexity when it comes to indie dev. Yes, an MMORPG is probably something you wouldn't want to make in Flash, but an RPG or a simple multiplayer game is still complex enough.
So, you can make a "complex" and "real" game in Flash if you want to. There's literally nothing preventing you from doing so, aside from the fact that it's probably a better idea to move to a modern game engine/programming language.
