How different are the Board segments to regular gameplay anyway? You still walk around, talk to some guys, get into turn-based battles with other guys. Stuff you've already been doing but with added incentive to be somewhat competent at them for a good rank. Or if you feel so compelled you can just use the Power Croissant/Camera to grind instead.
It's not like absolutely nothing's happening either, you have that whole Weather Couple subplot and Tenna dumping Dreemurr family lore on you.
What makes it worse than like the Acid Tunnel or Cyber City just tossing a bunch of Mouse puzzles at you, is what i'm getting at?

3 is great but it’s short. I like how unabashed it is, just Toby fucking around. I thought it was short to make encountering the knight easier. The knight is a cool fight and better than spamton neo but I liked every other character in chapter 2 more than 3. Even Queen was better than Tenna and I like Tenna as much as everyone else, but Queen was better. That’s it.

Chapter 3 is my favorite chapter so far.
This goes without saying, but the ending is absolute kino.
Rouxls Kaard 2, Tenna, and the Roaring Knight are my favorite boss fights in the game.
The SWORD ROUTE is by far the best and most elaborate of the Shadow Crystal related side quests. The way it hints at discovering the Weird Route without external help from the internet is really clever, though the episodic release schedule ruined that for people playing the chapters as they come out.
I'm a big fan of secret hunting, so hunting for and eventually finding the egg without using a guide was one of the most satisfying experiences I've had with a video game in recent years.
I thought most of Tenna's jokes were funny. I don't like him has much as Queen, but I like him a lot and I think he's pretty slept on. I think people would like him more if chapter 3 was before chapter 2 and you met him before Spamton.
A lot of people seem to really hate the mini-games, but I thought all of them were very fun. I liked the Susiezilla minigame enough to spend 4 hours grinding for the T-Rank on it.
Even the regular board segments are more entertaining than people give them credit for. I found the controller swapping bit to be especially creative.

Oh, and I'm a big fan of Osamu Sato so the Rolypolys reference hit me like a truck.

Like in Ralsei's version of the prophecy, it's pretty direct, while in the chapel, the only reference to that is pic related, where it says the angel will only meet with its desire after being banished.

I see this a lot but I think it's a bit of a misinterpretation. Toby is telling to you let it lay, but not because he thinks playing the game makes you a bad person or whatever. I think it's something much simpler: he thinks your time with the game should end on a high note. The last memories he wants you to take with you are your emotions after getting an ending for the first time, not boredom as you lose interest in a game you've seen a thousand times before.

I think the gameplay, the combat system, the way you encounter enemies, the graphics, etc. all feel dated compared to Deltarune. There were also many quality of life improvements. But the writing in Undertale is so on point that it makes up for it. In my view the pacing, the characters, the multiple routes, etc. are all done better in Undertale. And the setting design and atmosphere. It's all just very cohesive and magical. The lore of Undertale is also more expansive and complete. Plus the combat system is still very fun, even if I overall prefer the one in Deltarune. The upper ceiling for fight difficulty in Undertale is also much higher than in Deltarune, and the difficulty is nicely supported by its purpose in the narrative.

The side content, even though it's alright (I wouldn't necessarily call it "good") reeks of leftover ideas being stitched together haphazardly.

The idea for a TV dark world is perfect and we were all anticipating it (for FOUR years), and then it hits and first it seems to be game show themed, then it just turns into a shitty zelda clone (of which there are TWO versions, one where you use a camera and one where you can attack).

Then it's a bunch of shitty mini-games (as a preamble to the fact that the boss fight in this chapter would be warioware themed fwiw, which was an actual great concept), and there goes another hour.

Then it's back to the shitty retro zelda again and there's like six of them. And there's another hour.

And then, FINALLY, the chapter starts, not without a few more secret zeldas because fuck you, and interspersed game show sections again because fuck you again.

It felt like padding to prevent us from getting to the real story developments too quickly.

Chapter 3 is fun but a lot of it feels like recapping stuff that we already know about or broadly understand. Like there's a whole bit about everyone in the gang being friendly with each other and it's like, yeah. I knew that already. Susie went from standoffish bully to friendly dinosaur girl by the end of chapter 1. I already know that Kris' home life is kinda shit from all the hints they drop in earlier chapters. I already know he looks up to his older brother and was sad when he went to college. All of the mechanical stuff works, the game boards, the minigames, even the secret stuff like the true game was fun and compelling. But you don't really get any new character beats or development. Ironically enough for being a TV-based episode, it feels like an intermission.

I think it might've been better if, rather than sleeping, Toriel had an actual presence. She's an important supporting character for Kris and so far the only thing we know about her is that she's overprotective, likes to bake, and is divorced from Asgore on not-so-friendly terms. Which I could've divined from playing Undertale. Undyne's cameo role in the chapter is whatever, she's probably not going to be super important this game, but Toriel is probably a huge part of why Kris is the way he is, and Chapter 3 didn't do anything with her.

I hope so. One thing I was thinking of after playing through the chapter was that we know why Toriel and Asgore split on unfriendly terms in Undertale. The pain of losing their child combined with Toriel hating Asgore's plan to break the barrier makes their divorce/estrangement make sense. It also contextualizes Toriel, both her presence in the ruins and why she tries to stop you from leaving. It's also nicely symbolic, as Toriel/Asgore are literally on the opposite end of the spectrum on this issue, and as such her area is at the start of the game while Asgore is at the end.

However, in Deltarune, Asgore and Toriel never lost Asriel or their adopted human child. Asgore never hatched a plan involving child murder (As far as we know). You might say that, well, this is how the characters were in Undertale, but they were like that for a very specific reason. What's worse, this family dynamic being the way it is informs so much of Kris' character, and 4 chapters in we have basically no info on it. I've heard Chapter 5 is going to have Asgore in it and I hope it's more than just him wandering around being pathetic and mumbling like a school shooter.

Yeah, if there's one criticism I'd make of chapter 3 it's that it would be very handy to have saves in the zelda sections. Redoing all of that if you miss the S rank takes too long. To be fair, it's quite forgiving, since you can make up for your screw ups in the physical challenges, but still. Gaster's definitely forcing us to experience gaps between the narrative, remember that between Chapter 2 and 3, before Susie wakes up, Kris manages to run all the way to Tenna and orchestrate a deal with him to capture Toriel, stall for time until The Knight shows up, and THEN run all the way back to the couch to "be asleep" again before we actually fade in again.
Happens all over the place, it also stands out mid-Weird Route in Chapter 4, where between Equipping Noelle and Kris's bathroom meltie, he manages to compose himself long enough to make the call about Susie having the guitar (something she invariably does even without the Looney Tunes Bullshit on the normal route) and then wipes his phone history completely clean.
