I dunno. Kris is obviously really broken up about what you did to Noelle, and having to give you back control again. I don't think it's him, though. He fought you off in the Noelle scene if you take too long/mess around too much, but this is an explicit 'pause'. I definitely think it's meant to represent some kind of 'glitch' in the game, that you've fundamentally broken something. Not just with Noelle, but with Susie, too, since she mentions 'the three of us'. I think that's the important part. Whatever the 'main route' is, Noelle (and Susie) are integral to it. I think this is a clear indication that you can't go back any more.
Also perhaps a hint of Susie being either jealous or, more likely, worried about being excluded by her new friends. Poor Susie, bros.

The scene without context isn’t very unnerving, but given that there is 15+ hours of story leading up to it, including scenes where you slowly corrupt a young woman into being a murderous psychopath and even rape her to make sure she is corrupted forever, it hits a bit harder. Undyne is mostly not breaking the fourth when calling the player an abomination, but Sans and Flowey break the fourth wall completely and criticize the player directly. As in, you're not merely following a story about evil, you're being evil yourself.

Not the point Deltarune is trying to make, by my estimation. Right subject matter, wrong idea.
What Deltarune seems to be trying to express, at least right now, is that freedom isn't all it's cracked up to be. Not because it's MEAN TO THE CHARACTERS, because you, the player, have a lot of options a game will never have an answer for, and you often choose not to engage with them solely because of that. A puzzle game can't stop you from looking up a walkthrough, nor can it alter all its puzzles to account for you reading one. You're agreeing to some constraints to get the gameplay out of the game. Constraint, lack of freedom, is an essential part of games.
It's not asking "what does freedom really mean", it's saying "whatever you think it means, you're already giving some up, so what do you think the right balance is?"

I would never have made the connection that just referencing the community in some capacity was "ironic". If you're directing anger or spite towards your community, that's irony, because a game is fundamentally supposed to be an attempt to share something, and how can you share with someone you're seething at? If you're in the weird route on chapter 4. Then when you're in the vents at the Holiday residence you can exit the vent through a dialogue box while Noelle talks to Kris. Then you can possess Kris and put the ring on the Doe. Again
