Wuchang is a lot better. The way deflects are implemented with some weapons is very rewarding. They are essentially weapons that have Monster Hunter style guardframes on certain attacks, or like Thrusting Shields in Shadow of the Erdtree, so you are ACTUALLY a lot aggressive.
The game in general is well put and has an actual style of build crafting rather than pseudo stat based RPG systems you evenly level
Some other reviewers said magic falls off but I disagree. When you chain melee and spells you end up getting near instantly staggers, so spells aren't just a "delete that enemy"
I came in not expecting much and it's up there with Lies of P (for different reason) as top tier Souls-like. This is from someone that shilled Lies of P a lot and when I played it early I made lots of threads about it and the first webms

Only select weapons have block, but just like nioh you can unlock different defensive techniques that are unique to each weapon. It's not a 1:1 but the inspiration and concept is there. Like how odachis had a special parry for yokai, here spear has a special aerial deflect. Dual swords allow you actively parry attacks as long as you keep timing your attacks to enemy hits. And yes it has seamless weapon switch combos that you can see in the OP vid. You have a couple of skill nodes devoted to taking advantage of quick weapon draws but unlike nioh which uses stance switching for ki flux, here it's used to for the game's equivalent of the anima resource.
Only made the Nioh comparison because no soulslike plays like Nioh at all and this is the closest I can compare it to. Although the biggest difference is thar unlike Nioh, in wuchag there is no ki pulse/flux mini game to keep your stamina up.

You can upgrade them. But mind you they are not pay to win. They just have different skill load outs that if you dont know how to use, you are going to die quickly either way. For example watchers gaze has a skill that looks like your character autistically waving the sword in front of her really quickly. Nioh and Wo Long's controls make sense because developed by Team Ninja who also makes Ninja Gaiden which is why those games use NG controls with having the light and heavy attacks on the face buttons instead of the shoulder buttons.

Wuchang's controls are similar to past Souls games using the shoulder buttons for light and heavy attacks and the majority of Souls games have been using this control scheme since PS3 Demon's Souls.

It works by literally clashing your attacks against the enemy i.e. pressig light attack at the same time as the enemy is going to hit you, negating damage for both of you. Its works best for dual swords because of how fast the basic lights are and since weapons in this game have active hit boxes, two swords mean you increase your chances of hitting against the enemy's attack hitbox.

Game looks fun but honestly too much for me to care about at the moment. I'm burnt out on souls likes and would rather just go through some of my backlog over playing a new souls game.

Stop looking at "souls" as a genre. From used to primarily make mech games which is most likely why they decided to carry over the right/left weapon setup along with shoulder attacks. Most hack-and-slash games in the past used face buttons to attack so I wouldn't really call those "Ninja Gaiden" controls. Devs under KT tend to use square as light attack and triangle as heavy while Capcom has it's own preference for DMC and MH. Black Myth also uses face buttons but ultimately it doesn't really matter, any actual action game fan should be able to adapt to whatever control layout the devs come up with. For games like SoP they use shoulder buttons but it's a design choice that works well with how the magic casting is done since you need your thumb on the stick for that. I've seen idiots criticizes Astral Chain before for having shoulder attacks but it makes a huge amount of sense since it's designed to let you control and attack with two characters at once. I don't really know what I'm going on about anymore but I guess I just want to say that it's silly to ever use the control layout as some sort of reason to be biased against a game. Like I know some people will think they're super hardcore action game fans and scoff at shoulder button attacks simply because From does it and they're obligated to hate From for whatever reason.

Ironically despite not liking it as much in Nioh my biggest issue with Wo Long and why it's probably my least favourite of the Nioh adjacent games TN have made is that the actual RPG elements and the customisation is incredibly shallow so the game just got repetitive a lot quicker compared to Nioh 2 where I went all the way to DotN and had like 400 hours in it by the end. It also has by far the worst balance in the NG+ modes with the enemy health bloat getting insanely unreasonable that it just stopped being fun. Lies of P released on Gaypass, I don't know if this game did. Lies of P was also the game that eventually allowed these games to be successful. It still sold 3M copies (which I think is more than Stellar Blade) despite having a lower CCU, that is because Lies of P had good legs and strong sales thanks to positive word of mouth.
Before LoP the only good game that was even similar was Nioh 2, and Nioh 2 is more like a Ninja Gaiden game than a Souls game, frankly. LoP is like an actual Souls-like that is just really good.

You have a point. Technically, Lies of P was the very first non japanese asian console game that was in the AA and AAA bracket to release that wasnt a gacha. The fact that it was the devs first try and sold 3 million copies is really inspiring for many other smaller asian devs. Wukong was and probably is still a big fluke but stellar blade and wuchang prove that there is indeed a healthy market for these games.
Shame about Khazan but I think that was Nexon aiming a bit too high with sales expectations

Wukong was a weird, genuine push by the Chinese government and people in a show of nationalism. It was the first single player AAA Chinese game to be released. It was a source of national pride for them and the government wanted it to succeed to prove that they could break into the most lucrative entertainment industry in the world.
Unfortunately for Wukong it was really only successful in China. Now, OBVIOUSLY, there are billions of those niggas. They don't need anyone else. But its response in the west was far more muted. I have not played it yet, I have heard some people say it is great, some sad bad, I was gonna play it when it got a nice discount.

As for Khazan, it is a shame. I actually liked it quite a bit. I don't know why it didn't hit as well. I actually liked the dark anime aesthetic and I am not even someone who really watched anime. I thought it looked cool, played well, and was fun. Not sure why Lies of P popped off so hard but Khazan struggled so much.

Game is so gonna get a mixed rating. The optimization is not very good.

The game absolutelt pulls no punches back. It is set during the fall of the Ming dynasty where rampant famina and strife has raged across china while the Manchus are invading from the north. The very first enemies you fight are cannibals feasting up on a local village.

the framegen of the game is complete shit, it adds a fuck ton of imput lag, is a lot better to just use losless scaling.
also turn off motion blurr, it has camara based motion blur insted of movement based.
also try to play it as close as native resolution scaling because the artifacts are kinda crazy at high resolution scaling
