This would work better if the game didn't hide most of its mechanics from the player. You can't see how much stamina you currently have or how guts or wit are interacting with it, you can't see how your stats are affecting your placement in any way, all you can see is skill activations (but not what's triggering them at that specific moment outside of skills with specific activation requirements). It's very deliberately opaque and Tazuna's advice after each race is utterly useless.

Because no one trains guts, the game thinks you're going to under perform. Favorites tend to have well balanced stats. Doesn't matter that you're the 8th favorite when you have 600 more speed and 300 more stamina than the rest of the pack. Wit and Guts are dump stats.

you have to understand that each uma career has (You) adopting different personas. Super Creek (You) is a totally newbie trainer whose relationship with Super Creek is akin to being trained yourself, hence the mommy play. The infantilism is (You) learning to accommodate certain Uma's quirks, and not just (You) receiving mommy play one sidedly. This career is my favourite because it ends on a sweet note of the trainer and Super Creek finally realizing what they meant to each other and standing as equal to each other, also heavily implied romance unlike most careers.

Taiki is by far the best and you can't convince me otherwise.
