The movie can be mostly watched on its own which is good! The story is mostly self contained enough to where you don't need to watch the anime first entirely, at most you could watch the free OVA they have on Youtube since it's techically a continuation of that

In the anime the horses are swapped around a lot to not be related unless they were direct siblings, so for Scarlet's case it got changed into being one of the few Tachyon is surprisingly almost always nice to
