This is the next Compile Heart game, it will be released this month (in Japan). A 2D RPG, it's like a Vanillaware game or something developed by Artisan Studios. I wish them luck.

Unless this next mainline performs a miracle turnaround, it and Compile Heart are not surviving past the decade. They got effectively soft-banned from Nintendo consoles, forcing them back onto the decrepit Playstation plantation, sales are continuing to decline across the board, people are getting fed up with the endless spinoffs and ports and completely neutered fanservice. Neptunia's future is very uncertain now, to put it mildly.

Well, that 2D game posted above, not to mention Mado Monogatari: Fia and the wondrous academy recently released in the west, prove that Compile Heart *can* still publish games for Nintendo platforms without issues...as long as the game is tame of course. There is mild fanservice in the recent games and in a way, this is very revealing. With the exception of the Nintendo Switch version of Hyperdevotion Noire: Goddess Black Heart this year (only in Japan), every game published by Compile Heart since last November has been rated CERO B...

In a way, it's even more revealing than the character designs of some of their games (hehe), the glitch mode in Death end re;Quest games, Yellow Heart's design, those things are less revealing than this, how Compile Heart has been publising games so tame that they are only rated B in Japan...that Shoot 'em up may also be rated CERO B if one considers this consistent pattern.

When the game with the lowest ESRB rating in the franchise still gets censored on Switch, combined with three of the four mainlines getting hard-banned, that's basically a soft-ban on the entire series. And yes, every recent game by CH has been pathetically tame. Coinkydentally, they also all flopped spectacularly to the point they didn't even break the Famitsu top 30 rankings on their release weeks. The people I observe that used to be hardcore Neptunia/CH fans typically cite how neutered they've become as one of the main reasons why they stopped supporting them.

Several of their best titles came out after Nep VII, like Mary Skelter and Death end re;Quest. The decline and "indiefication" of their games speaks to me of a lack of funds for a budget. In other words, Compa is likely very, very poor these days, the money from Neptunia's heyday having run dry after the PS4 era, and Calamity Angels looking like a scrapped mobile phone game really drives this home. It really makes me worry what the next mainline is going to look like, because it's going to need to wow people to win the audience back, but judging by their recent games, Compile Heart does not have the funds for any major leap in presentation. It's true that fanservice scenes are mostly a thing of the past in Compile Heart games though, nowadays, the fanservice in those games begins and ends with the character designs and maybe the photo mode, that's it.

Game Maker is a new game on the SvS engine with real time combat, but otherwise similar to the mainline Neptunia games. Follows older Neptune from VII traveling into a new parallel world introducing 3 new goddess based on failed consoles (3do, Atari Jaguar, Apple Pippin). Overall the combat is improved though since you can do attacks without needing action points.

Neptunia Riders is a complete spin-off.
