PSI is not complicated but you should know a little about how the game plays. If you really want your first full play through to be a PSI one i recommend doing a more traditional build and playing until you get to crossroads. Maybe just until you finish the depot if you are confident. PSI is nice but not as reliable or just strong as i would have imagined.
I had a nice LMG play through where i just mow down everyone (including the final boss) in like at most 4 turns. PSI does not at all feel this way. Or at least at this stage of this character.

Don't forget your custom portrait. The image having transparency will even make the background change so the lolcow of your choice is truly a part of the world.

yeah. Even if you don't touch the new area it still adds a new PSI discipline and also shotguns as well as a new story-line independent ending ahem ahem. The heavy duty DLC adds a dungeon (also benefits from PSI lore wise if you know what to do) but its main attraction for me at least are the LMG's, Miniguns, and grenade launchers. Worth it still imo, even if the price to content ratio is not comparable with the base game or the first dlc.

Something I don't get is that there is not a single good "chud" game. It's fine enough, but it has to be heavily modded to be palatable, as you yourself have admitted, and quite frankly it's gotten very moldy and outdated at this point to where only the most casual and bitter tourists would be clinging to it. Personally I think wargames are more tactically engaging, and I don't find the rpg mechanics in ja2 to be particularly endearing. Core of democratic establishment is just neolibs which fair would be considered centrist or center-right, but it would probably lose votes to green and socialist parties on the left.
