I used to be a bit obsessed about ranked systems and the idea of grinding and gitting gud. Like back in the day I used to idolize Korean StarCraft pros. I'm a bit upset that I never reached an "elite" rank in any game I played, I always reached the ranks equivalent to Diamond, I could be considered a tryhard enthusiast but I always lacked the discipline and nerve management to be able to grind and improve further.
I'm 30 now. I played Marvel Rivals for a bit because of the buzz, but then learnt about the matchmaking systems, and how negative winrates can give you the highest rank, so I became disillusioned and stopped. Seems like many games push for that kind of matchmaking nowadays, even fighting games.
Deep inside me I still want to "improve" at a game and reach a challenger-like rank, but I know it's a retarded goal to have at my age, and I don't feel passion nor love for any specific game nowadays. Back in the day I should've just sticked to one instead of jumping to trends. I lowkey wish I kept playing SC2.
I'm open to game suggestions that might motivate me to actually do competitive grinding, although I'll probably eventually get into chess again, which I think is more respectable and less childish
