It's a cool design. Really only kickass powerful individuals can do anything worth a shit with a keyblade though. Before transformations were a thing, unless you knew magic or were trained with a weapon the keyblade wouldn't do shit for you besides unlock things and beat enemies to death. This is shown in KH1 when you lose the keyblade but still have access to all your magic and abilities despite only having a wooden sword. Sora learns and gets taught magic by other magic users. He gets special combat abilities from experienced fighters like Leon and Cloud. But the keyblade by itself before transformations were a thing jobs to other iconic vidya weapons(still my absolute favorite weapon in gaming)

Riku in general is an absolutely enormous reference to both Kain (traitor for bad reasons, jealousy over Kairi's attachment to Sora and kidnapping her, becoming possessed by the game's villain) and Cecil (struggle with darkness and his own shortcomings, subsequent cleansing in fights against himself at his worst with Replica Riku, Riku using darkness as a force for good is the closest he'll get to outright becoming a Paladin since Mickey and Sora both do better with that, Mickey in particular)

Realizing that every game was going to be plot relevant. The mistake was stringing us along for a masterplan that connected every single game including mobile spinoffs into a singular plotline. I think I checked out at 3D when I realized that it was aiming for an even greater scale of a plot.
You could play 2 without having played CoM and still get by fine, but BBS and 3D are necessary for 3. Not to mention Days and one of the mobile games being relevant too.

I played through the 1.5+2.5 collection last year and it only crashed when the graphics settings weren't configured properly. For example I think you need to keep the built in vsync option enabled no matter what. After I fixed it up I didn't have any more crashes.

I am not reading the thread to see if someone else already said this.
I think it's a really cool idea both thematically and as a gsmeplay mechanic. The keys you gather through a game feel like mementos for the worlds you've conquered and they act as cosmetic flavors to your build. It's a shame that their power doesn't scale with your level, as cool as the Jungle Key or the Olympus Key in KH1 for example arez you'll never use them once you unlock better keys mid and late game. If the power scaled with Sora/the player the passive skills and traits they have would distinguish them apart and give viability to some later on.
But it's got an amazing cross between appealing to fans and functions perfectly in the narrative. A perfect combo from the game's aesthetic and marketing perspectives.

Throughout the entire process of 100%ing BBS, nothing was more freeing than beating MF as Terra. I'm so glad I did his postgame first. Made the rest of it fly by, comparatively.

Much like MF with Terra, only the one time. You only gotta Maestro it with one character, the rest can just get Cools which unlocks the next song/reward so you don't nearly have to fret as hard about the timings (though after you get it once, it becomes muscle memory to a degree).
