it gets even worse when you understand that most devs on the game at this point probably never played the RTS games or likely even early WoW itself, to them it was just some generic rootless fantasy universe to insert their OCs into. also just putting it out there that War3, while a comfy game, was never going to be a deep enough setting to flesh out 20+ years of story development and the panicky asspulls were inevitable.

Everytime a big Pserver approaches launch, you'll see plenty of threads on /v/ about it, they'll often even get their own generals on /vg/. Meanwhile, I have never seen a thread for a FF14 pserver in the entirety of the 13+ years I've been posting here. Even fucking Runescape gets threads and generals for Pservers. Even dead games like City of Heroes or Star Wars Galaxies do. Meanwhile, nobody cares about FF14, the only players are mazed paypigs. WoW won.
