To be clear, I'm fine with the Souls games doing it -- it's their jam, and I get that -- but I hate it in almost any other context. I ALSO hate it in Souls games, past like the first NG+, but I won't fault them for following their own pattern.

This is one of the biggest issues I have with REMake 1, I love that game but NG+1 unlinks all the item boxes, completing as both Jill and Chris has an explosive zombie who blows up the whole mansion if you shoot him following you for 25% of the game and NG+2 makes all the enemies invisible. Japan makes the best games and also the worst games. I don't find it hard to stay away from anime slop and just play the good shit however. It's like how Japan is incapable of making FPS games. US studios can't make satisfying action games to save their lives.

You get your quest marker, the wormholes/shop, doors and chests, and it's more than enough.
Great game obviously, but not having well defined visual clues, or having them but they change on each level, sucks.

When a video game takes its story incredibly seriously and the creator clearly thinks he's some genius writer. This is particularly prevalent in indie games and ruins a lot of them.
