How about reactive dialog in undertale for doing certain things? For example theres a snowman you can take a piece of who askes you to bring him to the ends of the earth, its a decent healing item and bringing it to the end gets you a nice little nod, on a bad playthrough you can pull the snowman apart for all he's worth.
At the start of undertale you meet the ex wife of the big bad guy, she bakes you a pie and you keep a slice. If you hold onto the pie till you meet said bad guy and fight him, when you eat the pie his atk and def lowers. Theres numerous small details like that, didn't need to be there, but are there. The problem with Kris is that Toby is trying way too hard to keep the allusion to Undertale up by making Kris similar to Frisk. I mean fuck, it's even in the name.
Frisk is at least an understandable subversion of the adrogynous self insert character, because it turns out that you are not Frisk, you are "The Player" who happens to control Frisk and it's never been said if Frisk is aware of this or not. Only Flowey and Sans seem to be. Even in Genocide, Flowey sees Frisk as Chara, but not The Player, ever. Chara is aware of TP's existence as soon as Genocide starts given her dialogue.
But the issue lies not in Kris, but the interactions he has: everyone calls Kris by either his name or using "they", when, if he had been living there since childhood, they should VERY well know what gender he is by now, especially since it's established SINCE THE FIRST CHAPTER that YOU are NOT KRIS. Kris is his OWN person. So he HAS an established history, or at least you can infer it. There is no need for the self insert androgyny because now WE, the player, are our own character, The SOUL. But since Toby wants to keep the allusions to UT, he resorts to using "they" to keep this weird illusion alive, even though it's blatantly false, and makes it seem more like Kris is using mentally ill logic which everyone somehow knows, or somehow everyone in town is actually retarded and don't give a shit about Kris to know something as basic as his gender.
TLDR: Toby's retardation and lack of insight led him to a corner he now can't escape without upsetting trannies.

I think the weakest parts of chapter 3s boards are the fact that incanon they're stripped down, lamer versions of a game that already exists. Now narratively this is very interesting, however it does mean that you have to slog through stripped down, lamer versions of a marginally more fun game.
Still fun, still really like chapter 3, but yeah, I can see not liking the main board stuff. The mantle game is total kino from beginning to end, and the Mantle fight is so much fun.

Chapter 3 has a lot of good parts but I do think it has the worst design of the four chapters. Getting the shadow mantle is ridiculous compared to the other secret bosses. In general I don't think you should be forced to replay a chapter to get a "full" run, just to explore alternate routes or if you feel like it. Jevil was just opening a few chests, Spamtom was following a very signposted questline, and Gerson practically held your hand through the whole thing. Shadow mantle meanwhile is borderline FAQ-bait.
However I do understand why it was designed the way it is, Toby wanted to give 3 and 4 distinct identities because otherwise one could have overtaken the other in terms of popularity. 3 was more gimmicky and silly so 4 could be more serious and plot-focused. 4 might not have hit as hard if 3 was more grounded.

Queen's twitterspeak dialog has a bunch of lolsorandumb humor that can be grating, but there's never a 'wow that just happened' kind of thing there, the humor never undercuts the actual goings-on. Same thing with Tenna being ADHD-bait in Chapter 3, hell there the fact that he's trying way too hard to grab your attention is kind of his entire thing, since he's a failing entertainer desperate to regain people's attention and all.

I think the closest thing to "Irony Poisoned" dialog in the whole game comes from Susie basically outright refusing to cooperate with the premise in Chapter 1.

The worst part is, individually, none of the minigame bullshit is outright unappealing. Framing it all as a lengthy distraction left a very poor taste in peoples' mouths about it, but it's not bad, it's just not super substantial. Everything they introduced in 2 like the dojo or music shop got nothing (in fact ones closed and the other lost the ch2 battles) and they only let you replay the guitar hero mini game, and there were no new crafting recipes
