nobody talks about this, but one of the worst SE decisions made was their Dawntrail launch day promotion: viewers watching Twitch streamers play the MSQ (all of it) and they get in-game gift codes the longer they watch. They really planned this thinking that people would be intrigued by the paint-by-number world of Tu'raa'al and charmed by Wuk and rush out and buy it, but it turned into a watch-the-streamer suffer marathon and I'm sure turned lots of people away. In the end, at least I had some fun with Dawntrail and never gave this dumpster fire or Yoshi a cent

It’s hard to explain but they kinda got lazy with Tural compared to Kugane/Othaed and Thavnair.
Thavnair had buildup with lore since ARR with the alchemists for the relics and such. The Far East had the buildup with Doma and ninjas and such.
What Tural had (known only as New World until literally 6.55) was mercenary lizards and blue mages (starting from 4.5). Then when you get there, it’s just constant tourist tropes that’s way too similar to IRL.

fucking how? Without the timer to manage, and with more instant casts than hard casts, it's all just a matter of slapping FireIV six times, then using a few skills (half of which are instant) in order before doing it again.
There's no need to keep track of how much movement you're using, and how much you need to finish your fire phase properly. No sharpcast management requiring you to actually plan out where to weave. No mana ticks which would often need you to add an extra GCD to Ice phase under leylines, which encouraged better planning.

Now the only thing you actually can optimize is casting uptime, which is easier than ever given that we have three polyglots, Paradox as a pure movement tool, Thunder and Despair if movement comes at the right time, a now 40 second swiftcast, and our old reliable triplecasts

I'm genuinely so fucking mad that anyone enjoys Black Mage. This was the only class I still liked, and they took it away from me because some people got a bit tired of playing Dragoon, and wanted to play "the iconic magic caster" then got scared and started whining to Square when it wasn't easy right away.

I think the most surprising thing is that it took FFXIV this long to get a character like that. Its a modern final fantasy game with WOW raids shoehorned in, of course its going to 'end'

There is no player agency in the game outside of the ERP scene, the world is pretty much void of content, there is no real economy, and there is no driving force to keep people playing long term other than to collect transmog for ERP.

The ERP scene will continue to stick around, but as a game it was never good and now that the story is over its finished and Dawntrail shows that the game has entered its Team B life support phase and will start to decline like WOW did after WOTLK.

I played FF14 a couple of months before DT and it was one of my best experiences playing a game in years. I treated it like Single Player JRPG with multi-player elements and it was a fun ride. FRU is really good as well. A little bit less challenging than the EW ultimates, but harder than the SB-ShB ones so still very respectable difficulty. The phases have good variety as well so it is fun to replay.

Overall, battle content is just fun in DT, but so few people actually engage with it. And don't hit me with how classes have been casualized, I've seen PCT and VPR clear numbers on FFLOGs.

Only beaten by PLD, which was reworked right before DT release basically. This is why I can't take people who complain about class design seriously.
