To be honest - Citadel > Beyond Citadel. Original Citadel has better flow, didn't have LIVE CUMSLUT REACTION, and while last couple of levels were... abrupt (like that one last chamber with twins), Beyond not only starts with jankass winchester where you have to press M2 twice (you get used to it, but if you loved pistol from prev game, it throws you off), speedloaders that only confuse you, again, at the beginning. And last stages of Beyond are just... absurdly massive - i've skipped last 2-3 city levels(with giant pyramid at the end, and with giant vertical cross bastion) with some sort of grappling upgrade.

Because Beyond vastly improves upon mostly everything established in the original (except boss fights; they're both kinda shit in both games but at least the first game didn't give you OP weapons before most of them to make them utter cakewalks). It's much easier to stomach something that came before a much better game before you play the sequel than to go from the sequel to the first game, I believe.

So how's everyone enjoy the most recent changes done to the game in the latest patches?
Dev has released 5+ patches in the last week.
New gun, a completely "new" "tactical assist" skill system. Some alleged bug fixes.
The "new" gun is actually from OG citadel, I'm sure, and it's busted as fuck. I feel it shouldn't be stronger than the milletreuse, but here we are. The new system though, is actually pretty fucking cool.
You can finally slow down time without having to swap to the sniper rifle, but now you can't have that and the XG Rifle's hook shot at the same time. The XG rifle's alt shot got replaced with a new shotgun blast that spends grenades, and since it's semi auto, I am certain it can actually out-DPS every other gun in the game. Specially if you slow time down.

Original had it as it's own thing, in Beyond it was technically the sniper rifle's alt fire.
Now, however, you can do it on demand with any gun, pressing the T button.
There's a catch though, since you need to first choose your "tactical assist" on the armor shop screen. You can pick between the reflex booster, the hookshot or the riot shield, and the guns that previously had these alt fires now have new ones.

You're lucky you get to have fun with it. The update literally dropped after I beat the 7th boss on my second playthrough. Quite a coincidence Dev decided to update the game some more just as I decided to play through the game again.
And the gun is stupid strong, too much IMO. Alt fire is a literal aimhack. Then again, I feel like the game buffed a few weapons. The shotgun, for example, certainly started feeling stronger after one of the updates, though the patch notes don't really say much about it.

Not a fan of guro, but it adds to the game a lot. When the enemies survive lethal shots and just lie around breathing heavily or start attacking you, it makes for some dramatic scenes. The gunplay is very satisfying too. Pretty great game.
