It gets better as as time goes on. Believe me all the complaints people have given it, Japan did as well.

Gameplay is you choose a horsegirl to train, you have 3 years which are divided into 2 turns per month. Your first race is in the summer of the first year, afterwards you have the option of doing optional races at any time.

On a turn, you choose to train any of the 5 main stats, you will have a deck of 6 support cards which represent friends who semi-randomly visit the training facilities who will boost your training if you choose that type. When you train with friends it levels up their friendship which can boost how much they help you train.

There are also both random and scripted events for each horsegirl, as well as events that come from the support deck. There are also rest and recreation options.

You will have specific goals for each horsegirl, usually to place at a certain level in specific races, or obtain a specific number of fans. Fans are obtained by doing well in races.

There's nothing you can do to directly affect the race once it's started, you just have to hope you trained good stats and selected good skills and the correct race strategy.

I gave up on the game mostly. Not going to lie. I'm a C+ trainer at heart and gacha games are too rich for my poor-blood. One of those weird games I really want to like, but the game itself prevents me. The endless failures YOU LOSE YOU LOSE YOU LOSE GOAL INCOMPLTE. Pretty much my entire experience with the game. Sorry to tell you but that is the same situation. Just not enough Stamina, plus there is a ton more Pace Chaser debuffs you'll be hit by. 850ish minimum stamina with 2 gold recovery skills is required for Pace Chaser to survive. End Closer maybe about 800 stamina and 2 golds. Stamina is basically your HP and if you run out before the finish line, it doesn't matter how much speed and power you have

You might be able to squeak out a win with randomized Mood though

If your uma is well made and you know it, there's nothing wrong with that. Races are a number game onto themselves in PVP. Sometimes you win, most of the time you lose. Even if you got a 20% win rate, there's no way for you to know that if you've only done it like 6 times. I've joined maybe a hundred pvp races, just signing up whenever they show up. An yea. Depends on 'that good'. It's amazing on bitchy hors like taishin, teio, king. The amount energy saved on high level rainbow training is on par with wit rainbow recovery. Save you the headache of going before summer with migraine debuff because rest is a plague. The fact that it can reduce all these downside allows you to make your best horses based on legacy procs instead.

Most games these days have DLC/microtransactions/collectors editions/preorder bonuses etc etc that try to milk as much money out of you as possible.
This game can be played completely for free, and it's quite fun even if you don't want to go full minmaxer. It's a good training style game, with a ton of attention to detail to each horse and their story as they reflect the careers of their real life counterparts, but translated into a "cuter" way. It's very well put together, every aspect of it. I don't play gacha games but I gave this game a chance because I had fun with princess maker, digimon etc and this also has some roguelite elements for tons of replayability, a breeding system that mirrors pokemon autism, and all sorts of complexity under the hood. The characters are well written. You can play it like a lighthearted visual novel if you please, or you can go all in on trying to make the strongest umas possible and race them online. Take your time to breed and you can create some pretty strong umas that rival even whales. Obviously it's "pay to win" in that sense that you'll never be #1 without unloading a fuck ton of money, but you can get pretty far as a f2p. And as far as just enjoying the single player and career? There's a ton of content there for a free game. As an adament gachafag hater for the longest time, I give it two thumbs up. The anime and music are also really good.

If I were you golshi bro you want Kitasan (nobrainer but has power bonus at 1LB, important) but also King Halo MLB if possible as she has a power bonus. Inheriting unique skills from parents is also good. You want things that give golshi a speed boost as she passes other players, unique skills from pace chasers and later surgers essentially. If you don't have any, then use those borrows wisely.

Then for your other speed cards Taishin and Sweep Tosho for end closer skills. For Stamina, borrow super creek and i'd do an MLB manhattan Cafe as your other one, but if you got something better/almost as good use it.

Normally when I run out of borrows I try to have my shitty 3 sparks be the parents so that if I do wind up with a 3 spark child, that I can have a 9 spark horse (I only have one of those now).

What I've started doing for CM is forgetting about that and just going with raw stats and abilities. Forget about trying to make good breeding stock. You want a specific horse for a limited time event. So just pick the parents with the best stats and abilities and dont worry too much about making sure each parent is a three star spark.

Getting your stats up is important but you want to make sure you have a chance of getting S turf and S medium, make sure the sparks are there somewhere. Unique abilities are important too. The minmaxers Ive been practicing with, the inherited abilities are what's allowing these Golshi's and Oguri caps to REALLY break through around the final corner and hold the lead. You want 1100 speed, 1000 stamina + two big healing abilities for your ace, then like 3-4 unique abilities + homestretch haste + firm ground left handed sunny day tokyo race course etc etc! How are people getting all these skill points? Idk, MLB cards and winnign G1s when it makes sense? MLB Tazuna probably too. She gives lots of skill points and rounds out teams, very popular but hard to come by. Maybe borrow it if you have super creek and kita san, idk just spitballing here. Play some open rooms online and look at what these golshis are running because there's some realy strong ones.

Run her as a Pace Chaser. 4 Speed 2 Stam. Can't run a King Halo card so you'll have to get creative. You want Kita San, you want Super Creek, Manhattan Cafe i'd say for your second Stam, SSR Special Week if you got her. Eishin Flash might be another good speed to run for homestretch haste. Inherit as much stamina as possible. Give her pace chaser unique abilities from parents if possible, Maruzensky's ability is also really strong, Goldship's too. Make sure you get her medium aptitude up obviously. Pace Chasers are really strong in this one. You'll be up against Oguri Caps with Gourmand and Swinging Maestro with a bunch of strong unique abilities for the home stretch. Obviously try to grab lefthanded, firm ground, spring weather, standard distance, tokyo track abilities whenever you can. Do NOT skimp on stamina, aim for 1,000. Im not kidding. You NEED swinging maestro and professor of curvature as well. Learn Soft step since that's one of Halo's unique recovery abilities. That and Swinging Maestro should be enough.

This sounds like overkill but I'm just making an outline for a first rate CHAMPION.

After getting thrashed by whales in open rooms it inspired me to train even harder and see what's working and what isn't. Don't overdo it, always remember to have fun with it. I've personally started trying to make all my Bakushins into milers recently, and it's always kind of silly watching her be surprised that I'm letting her enter the senior Mile Championship as if she didn't already run it (and multiple other mile G1s) last year
I don't have good enough medium/long sparks to make her into the stayer she wants to be, but I'll be damned if I ever limit the poor girl to only running in sprints again when she clearly isn't satisfied with them
