retrying sections is not necessarily bad, it's arcade design. discovering the patterns is fine, it was a fast process earlier. only by ds3/elden shit the patterns went insane, you had no openings and bosses cheated. and trash delayed attacks.
The game design was solid in demon's/ds1.
And it wasn't weebs that made it popular, the first 5 souls games had european style.

Having a dodge button is nice, the real problem is that they have shown over and over again the player defeating the enemies. In a game like this you shouldn't be able to defeat them because it erases the threatening aspect of an horror game. Like these are intelligent people with tons of experience working on this game yet they don't seem to have the slightest idea about what they are doing.

I miss Dark Souls 1. It wasn't just a boss run game. It had atmosphere and soul. Sure the bosses were easy as fuck compared to Elden Ring. But the way you navigated the areas and the way everything connected was kino. I don't know. I've played Dark Souls 1 like 20+ times but I've only done 2 runs of Elden Ring before I gave up. It was fair because with 3D the concept of exploration was possible in ways it wasn't in 2D, so focus on pure challenge wasn't required. But for the entirety of 5th and 6th gen, and most of 7th gen challenging games were incredibly rare. Compare something like Castlevania on the NES to Devil May Cry on PS2, or Mega Man to Metroid Prime. Games got easier. Way, WAY fucking easier. Everything was piss easy.

Like it or not, Souls brought the appeal of challenging games back into the spotlight.

There is no difficulty in fromshit games, because those games are Pavlovian conditioning simulators. They work entirely on brainless training of correct reactions to animations. Encounters in them never change. It is literally impossible to not beat them, given you have time to waste on that drivel. You can train an animal to beat them if you make an appropriate controller.
