Eh, it's important to realize. Being a "Goomba in a hat" means nothing if you have a soul/personality. Meta Knights old squad is the perfect example of this. Everyone of them is Mook (with the exception of Vul who is MIA right now) but they all had a personality. You can feel something when they die and imagine how intense the duel with their boss will be when you get to him. Basically a Goomba in a hat is fine as a character as long as they have personality. You can even look at the Mario's own Paper Mario & Mario and Luigi games if you want more proof.

It looks like it does everything right that World did wrong. Excellent track design, the handicap systems still require skill to utilize instead of being retard-proof nukes, it's not stuffed with too many players, focused on racing instead of meme open world, it's got that incredible straightforward and fast menu system Sakurai's games are known for, shit they don't even make you spectate if you finish first despite the laps being like 30 seconds each.

Also the direct was one of the best edited videos Nintendo has put out recently, drip-feeding the content to keep you locked in.

For people who didn't grow up with the original, the point of these games is to be a multiplayer sandbox game where you can fuck around with friends. If you don't have friends to play this with either locally or online, don't buy it, you're missing the whole point. But if you do have someone to play with, it's a ton of fun. It's a sort of middle ground between the casual fun of Mario Kart and something more competitive like Smash, you can take it seriously but you don't have to devote hundreds of hours to learning shit.

Sakurai loves to introduce gameplay variety, a bunch of different movesets, settings and modes into his games.
