That's just great. If I wanted to play Amnesia I would play Amnesia, Alien Isolation or one of the countless games that do it better. RE games can't fully commit to that gameplay style because they need to have mass appeal and hide from the monster is a huge turn off for many people. Just fucking make a normal stalker monster if you want to go that way and let me kill zombies/ganados/monsters inbetween encounters.

I don’t even care what you think - I have found something to love in every one of these games (except six…. Though I’ll give it another try one day). And I’ve replayed 4RE, 2RE, 5, 7, and 8 all multiple times. I have a blast every time. So yes, I have been waiting for this game for fucking YEARS. Ever since the credits rolled on 8 years ago on my PS5.

And now you’re telling me I get to play as a cute blonde chick who’s gonna be scared shitless at the beginning of the game, then slowly grow more and more bad ass as the game goes on? (They have hinted about this). fucking yes please. Some of the best parts of 7 were early game when you were defenseless and just scrambling to survive before you became a walking army, and that’s what a lot of the footage we’re seeing is.

Not even you faggots will get me to be apprehensive about this. They have been cooking for years and I’m literally nearly as hyped for this as I am silksong. I just hope they have lots of cool New Game + options to encourage replays. I’m gonna be soaking in that horror with my ray traced 4090 self in about 7 months, LFG.

I'm fine with them going more horror like VII but this feels like those higher end $30 dollar horror steam games that are all cinematic and pretty but just run on atmosphere alone. It looks eerie in these isolated sections but they are going to fuck it up by having the monster just stop chasing you and fuck off when you get within 100 miles of a safe zone or something like that

One of the true complete misses in 8, I’ll admit. They fucked up so bad and could have patched it at any time, and just didn’t. All they needed to do was create a few different variations of this sequence for each difficulty level. Imagine the shock of replaying the game, expecting it to be the same as last time…. Except this time something is different. Bonus points if playing on Hardcore or Professional actually gave you a tougher puzzle sequence and every time you replayed it, it got more and more fucked up. Now THAT would be some incredible replay value for a moderate amount of work.

Tyranno Granny Rex would be much scarier if they didn't reveal that she's weak to light. Also, they really cranked up the stereotypical female horror protagonist that is scared of everything to 11. Might get annoying as you keep hearing her whimpering and jumping at every jump scare and lightning in the background.

I don’t know what your lobe damage is, but yeah. To be fair, I’m playing SH2 Remake on a 4090 at Ultra Ray traced max. It’s one of the better looking games I’ve played this generation and it’s all geared towards absolutely terrifying you. I’m sure if you play it on a Switch 1, you might have a different experience. The tension is as thick as the opening of RE7 and it just never lets up for very long before throwing you right back in, and deeper. You get a good sound system with the bass notes washing over you from a couple of high quality subs and it creates real tension.

Alright. So if Grace starts in the Rhodes Hill Chronic Care Center, then I guess that place has a basement which might have a secondary access point that connects to the Rhodes Hill sewer system. The sewers could lead Grace to the abandoned subway line connected to Raccoon City. I'm thinking that's how Grace eventually ends up in the Raccoon ruins.

I hope they do this because abandoned subway stations are always horror kino. Think of picrel, Condemned: Criminal Origins, The Midnight Meat Train, etc.

First of all you fuckin retard (talking to 208, but 102 this involves you too) it goes without saying that RE7 is a pretty good game. But only the first couple of hours are actually very scary. By the time you’re fighting off wasp nests the game is tense at times, but no longer scary. And starting right around discount jigsaw the game goes a noticeable downhill dive on gameplay quality. It’s a decent game, but it’s not all that. But sure, those first hours are TERRIFYING.

Silent Hill 2 Remake starts scary and just never lets up. Every time you get through one terrifying area, you’re going back into another - this time even worse. And they give you a ton of healing items and combat isn’t that hard, but it still remains scary because it’s not the survival elements that are scary - it’s the sheer atmosphere. They really hit it out of the park with SH2, and I hope Bloober gets more chances to do the same.

RE7 worked because it was severely downscaled. You played a family man and the game played on the horrors and perceptions of the family and the family home that most people can relate to. The biohazard containment was local. RE9 tries to draw to borrow some of those themes but not with the same consistency.

I remember hearing (I think it was in a dev interview) that originally, House Beneviento was supposed to be the house of the village doctor and it wasn’t initially intended to be a “hostile” area for the player. No idea what the location’s original intention was, but it makes sense. The house is very non-threatening and actually kind of situated in a peaceful area. Nothing about the house’s interior is stylized for horror, except for the room with the Mia doll. Everything else just looks like……a normal house. What I think happened was that it was originally intended for a completely different purpose and when that purpose got cut/removed, they had this sizeable area that they had to do SOMETHING with, so they decided to make it Donna’s house. I think COVID really fucked the game’s development, because Moreau’s area also feels oddly unfinished, while Donna’s segment is so much smaller in scale compared to Heisenberg and Lady D’s sections.

They don’t do that constantly, or it would lose its edge. And for all the hate that the factory gets, it too feels pretty fully fleshed out. But both the waterfall house and the dam areas feel…. Weird somehow. Like they both are 60% of what they should have been. But damn, still amazing on that first play through and still a hell of a good time on the yearly Hardcore replay.

I wish Capcom still had teams that put out DLC for their older games; I think a lot of us enjoy replaying them and especially DLC that would help reshape replays would be well received!

Yeah. Specially RE5. That game had a lot of potential but an abysmal execution. And its potential was only there because of Mikami.

Mikami was the one who directed both RE1 and RE4 so directing RE5 was a one in a lifetime opportunity to expand on what made RE4 so great but also combine it with more classic survival horror elements. The game would have been a fucking blast.

Besides, Mikami was the one who created and envisioned Chris, Jill and Wesker in the first place so it makes sense for him to be the one to depict their last stand.

I know Mikami doesn't seem to be interested in returning to horror games but I'd like to see his unfiltered version of RE5. Ideally it should be a RE5 remake with Mikami as the director who has full creative freedom. But since that will probably never happen, I'd be ok with a book-comic-drama album like William Gibson's Alien 3. The same thing can be said for RE6 and Kamiya. I'm confident he would do a decent job, to say the least.

What's weird is that in the 30th anniversary artwork they just show it's teeth with scraps of cloth obscuring the eyes. So, given what they've shown thus far, the game starts off with a sequence where we play as young Grace following Alyssa and seeing her get got by somebody. Then we get a cutscene of her as an adult FBI agent, which leads us to go back to the hotel where her mother supposedly died. Then something happens after that point- possibly in a cutscene and/or after a short gameplay sequence- where Grace gets captured, has to explore this section of the hotel while evading the big monster, before ultimately escaping into what seems like the main lobby of the hotel and presumably (hopefully) finding a gun.

They couldn't find a way to condense all that into something shorter? It's going to suck on repeat playthroughs, just like the beginning of RE7, RE8, and the RE3 remake.

For me it all depends on whether there are actual places to hide (in the gameplay it seems like you just sprint to the safe room over and over and I groaned because I don't want this to be another Mr. X situation). If you can actually hide from the creature using objects and the stealth actually works well like in A:tB then this would be a 10/10 horror game. The other way I would be really disappointed is if they pull a RE7 and this creature is only a few hours worth of gameplay and then the rest is just generic flashbacks and shooting T-virus zombies with a pistol or chris running around punching basic mobs for the last two thirds of the game. Re4 original for example had a good lineup of new and interesting creatures, each chapter was exciting, so I really hope Lisa isn't the Jack/Marg shining jewel covering an absolute uninteresting repetitive slog that is the rest of the game

They want to have their cake and eat it too- the animation probably looks/works better in third-person because you can see what the monster is actually doing and that it is/isn't an instant death animation. So they switch your perspective so you can see that regardless of your settings.

I think that's a bad idea; The Evil Within 2 did something similar when it added a first-person POV, but they implemented it in such a way that you'd be dragged out of first-person for certain contextual animations, which was horribly disorienting. Even Skyrim does it when you use furniture- there's no first-person animation for sitting down so they switch you over to third-person, then switch you back when you're sitting.

You can't be wishy-washy with the camera; you gotta commit to one or the other with a game like this. It's why RE8's first-person mode is so awkward; there are too many areas that are designed to be cramped, and third-person makes it harder to navigate them and find items since your face isn't the camera.
