The cogs are separate from the coil spike under the health pips; in the trailer, the coil is showcased as a "tornade" attack, while the cog is showcased around 37s as an "enemy grapple." Look for the cooldown animation in that spool.

This game did nothing special or unique. It’s literally just another generic Metroidvania Souls-like but with slightly better visuals than the average Metroidvania Souls-like. You lose your souls when you die and have an opportunity to get it back if you return to where you died, you play in a le mysterious and le dark fallen kingdom with le deep LORE about a CURSE that is eating away at the land. You meet NPCs on the verge of insanity that give you little pieces of obscure le lore dialogue. You jump on platforms, engage in some bog simple combat, find new equipment that expands your movement, all typical for the Metroidvania Souls-like genre.

Where this game struck gold is having a modern animation/cartoony look that appealed to gen z. In addition, for most of Gen z, this was their first exposure to Metroidvanias so it truly blew their minds. They had never seen a game like this + most of them never played a Souls or Souls-like until Elden Ring released 5 years later + a relatable, infantalized visual style that looks like it was made by their favorite youtube animator. A recipe to appeal to Gen Z, all while the game itself is nothing special and is easily comparable to any of the other Metroidvania Souls-like corporate indie slop that clogs online game stores

Really? Because Metroidvanias that actually do RPG stats and exp alongside equippable gear that enemies all over the game drop.

By far the vast majority of the games appear to take after Metroid and not even do anything Castlevania at all. Even if they go for melee combat instead of ranged combat, all the game design is still Metroid's and not Castlevania's.
Hollow Knight is another example just like it. Hollow Knight is all Metroid and no Castlevania. Homages like Nightmare Grimm is just aesthetic. Mechanically and in terms of game design, it just follows Metroid beat for beat, and any components of SotN or whatever that Hollow Knight shares, are SotN qualities that already existed in Metroid. None of the elements of SotN that were actually unique to Castlevania, are in Hollow Knight. Because it just follows Metroid.
