I used to use a decade old g502, but now I've switched to a modern g502.
There is nothing wrong with my old mouse; I'm just using the new one to test the claim that modern Logitech switches don't last and quickly begin to double click. After 4 months of neet-level usage, it is still fine. I wish it was a bit heavier, however.

Previously used a Zowie EC2A, still my favorite mouse by far but the scroll wheel is total ass on that thing. I've had two of them and the scroll wheel quickly stops registering 80% of the time.

After going through three Logitech G series mice for years (G203, G604 and G Pro) and having to suffer double clicking BS, I decided to buy one from China, the Incott G24.
It's pretty much a Chinese rip off of the G Pro, but it has hot swappable switches, which is now a mandatory requirement when I look for a new mouse to buy.

I think im using the exact same logitech one. I used to use a steelseries one, and liked the huge size with just a couple extra buttons. Before that were a couple razers, one that was big for FPS with also 2 extra buttons, and then another with a shitload of buttons for WoW. All of them started fucking up at some point, however. One stopped allowing to scroll, another stopped clicking properly, and one stopped allowing click inputs. I got frustrated and ended up with the logitech. Probably lasted me a few years now so far with no issues.

My GPU came with RGB but I bought it because it had the performance I wanted at the price I wanted. I don't fuck with the lights because I don't have to look at them because of my windowless blackout case. I liked this case so goddamn much I reused it when my built my new computer instead of buying another case. The case I had before this went through two or three different builds. I'd just strip it down completely and blast the inside of the case outside with the garden hose and dry it with a leaf blower before rebuilding.

I am currently using my g604 lightspeed. I have repaired this thing several times. Replaced the rubber, swapped out the shitty switches it originally came with when they started giving me the Logitech double click, cleaned up the scroll wheel when it was giving me shit, and even glued one of the side button back together with plastic cement when it snapped because of shit design.
This piece of shit will continue to get use until its completely unable to be repaired, or when repairing it is more expensive then just buying a new Mouse with more then 3 side buttons.

Don't let that stop you. When I sold my used hardware for the upgrade last year I still had my apollo from 2009. I wanted to turn it into a built machine so it would sell easier and so I don't have a big useless box taking up space. I had a 1070 to stick in it so I drilled out the rivets in the HDD cages and removed it. I had a spare SSD sitting around so I used that.
I spray painted the chrome plastic trim on the case black so it didn't look so gay. Computer aesthetics were very different back then. For some reason everyone wanted seven 5.25 optical drives and two or three fan controllers. Shits changed so much.

Honestly, the Logicool branding always makes me feel like Iβm buying some bootleg anime version of Logitech, but yeah you're right-still cheaper than the Scimitar these days and you arenβt stuck with iCUE or Synapse bloatware. I grabbed a G600T off a JP seller last month and itβs been rock solid, even if it looks like it time-traveled from 2012.

Basically a Logitech Pro X Superlight but
>even lighter (39 grams)
>more durable
>better build quality
>much better stock feet
>up to 8k polling rate (not really needed)
>omron optical switches
>better mousewheel (not like the garbage one from the superlight that stops detecting the middle mouse click if you lift the finger slightly without a click being audible)
>same/better latency

and for like half the price.

logitech g903 is ambi because it's modular. you can take the buttons off both sides, swap or disable them. entire mouse can be customized with software. but there are downsides
1) fucking expensive
2) good but not $140 good
3) used ones go for cheap specifically because pieces are missing
4) was made and marketed specifically to shill the optional $100 "mousepad that charges your wireless mouse"
5) it will eventually double click which is what people say but it only happens to me if i bash m1 like a nigger would
if you can find an auction or auction(s) for a steal that will net you a full set of all the accessories then it's a pretty good ambidextrous mouse

g502 is comfy for playing practically everything that isn't an FPS, g502 is too heavy if you're a low sensitivity player. But I'm using a razer deathadder v2, wired. I've started noticing it weirdly tracks when it's not supposed to. And I might need to install the razer software to correct that or simply buy a new mousepad cuz it's dirty. I ain't installing their fuckin bloatware. Too many third party applications can can be a nightmare on windows that will cause game crashes. I've learned the hard way about how certain DLLs hook into things that they're not supposed to.
I still haven't converted to wireless yet when it would probably make my life so much easier cuz the cable length always makes it tricky for me in how my desk is setup. One day I will change to wireless, but it's when I can think of absolutely nothing else to spend my money on. I've got a few wired mouses in my house too. So even if my razer mouse inevitably double clicks I've got like at least 4 other mouses to fall back on. If Razer decide on making a death adder V4 I hope they just go back to the classic shape, I'm less enthusiastic about the v3.

I have the older model. So I thought it remained the same. Then I suppose it's fine for FPS now. That's comparable to when I was using a Logitech g403 or a Zowie EC2-A/EC2-B. And even lower than an older Deathadder Chroma.

Same, I have been stuck with my Razer Lancehead TE for years now since it's the only one I've found that has side buttons on each side. It's a great mouse, but man is the build quality shit.
Each mouse I've bought from Razer always ends up with the mouse wheel malfunctioning. So I recommend it, but only if you plan on getting a new one every year or so.

I'll be the third person to say the scroll wheel is fiddly, which would normally be a dealbreaker, but this is the only mouse with a 4-6 side-button profile like that currently on the market so I don't have a choice. Previousl I was using the Logitech G604 (pic related), which had the same side-button configuration, but iy got old and started double-clicking and Logitech no longer sells them, so Razer it is I guess.

Unfortunatly, if you need G HUB for other devices, like the headset, you have to take a decision about what to install (as the old software gets disabled), which is the reason why I won't buy any Logitech products, aside the gaming mice.

That's part of R&D cost, not production and manufacturing cost. There had to be a justification to go ahead with designing a new mold, and they figured out it would cut down on material significantly enough to be worth it.
>and acquiring expensive parts like sensors
This is a cost theu have to consider regardless of the form factor of the mouse.
You can try to soin it how you want, it's obvious that the reduced material weight is a cost-cutting measure. Even pennies shaved off is huge at a mass prduction scale.

Again, they have the machinery and molds to do it already. That investment is done, it's mostly a one-time investment to have new molds built. Over time, this is far cheaper due to cutting back on material at scale.

That applies to products with mechanical parts, where they'll need a higher level of precision to move smoothly without wear. This does not apply to computer mice (outside of scroll wheels, which break early anyway as their build quality is actually shit), we are talking about a molded plastic shell that only needs to hold enough rigidity to keep its shape in your hand. You are the one that has no clue about the mass production of these products, including why all the major companies invested into ultralight mice in the first place. loved my naga since 2010, i've been through 3 of them.
one had scrollwheel failure after 6 years, the next one got mangled when i was hauling it to a mates for a lan, the top shell peeled back on the right click, tearing out the switch and crushing.
i bought a naga trinity (wired, of course) and i've used it since.
im kind of bummed though, the 12 button panel is losing connection randomly, and im forced to use the synapse software to disable the fucking scroll wheel side click bullshit, so im looking for a new 12 button MMO mouse, since the new ones are actual dogshit, had a mate buy one since they saw i was enjoying mine, and it had faulty swtiches on arrival, he returned it, and got another, with a dead scrollwheel on arrival, he returned it and got some steelseries monster instead.
im honestly wondering if i can dig those 2 broken mice out of my parents electronic waste room and Frankenstein them together, either jamming the second ones encoder into the first, or the firsts swtiches and top shell onto the second.
give me 12 side button mouse suggestions

No? Gold plating improves durability significantly, but there is still wear where there would be none with an optical switch and thus performance will degrade over the lifespan. Higher price on top of that. Also, optical switches have no debounce delay, whereas mechanical ones do.

gold plated microswitches don't degrade in timespans that can occur within human lifespans. no one has even worn out a D2F-01F. the only thing that can happen is the leaf spring can lose its tension, but that happens with optical switches too. sooner, because they're not as time-tested.
>Higher price on top of that
optical switches are more expensive, don't you know you need an entire LED for every switch? which also puts considerations upon battery life if it's a wireless mouse. ever wonder why "optical switch" mice have mechanical mouse3/mouse4/mouse5?
> Also, optical switches have no debounce delay, whereas mechanical ones do.
optical switches essentially contain two forms of DAC which both add 100% unavoidable delay that cannot be reduced or eliminated through any means. optical switches WILL ALWAYS be slower than properly implemented mechanical switches which use zero-delay debounce methods (eg. SPDT)

>more of a driver issue than one inherent to wireless tech.
True, howevr it doesn't matter as all the wireless mice I've tried have dogshit drivers that constantly poll at their highest polling rate regardless of DPI/sensor setting, and that can cause huge DPC latency spikes. I don't gain any advantage from using a wireless mouse to begin with, wires are no trouble for my setup, so I simply don't want to bother with wireless mice due to the risk of increased DPC latency via bad wireless drivers. I always opt for a "plug-and-play" mouse (i.e. no driver/bloatware requirement) for the same reason.
There's more to a mouse than playing shooter games.

That's not really what DPC latency affects.
It can affect roundtrip latency of audio, i.e. if you record audio and want to simultaneously hear (monitor) its playback during recording (say if you want to record bass as a DI, for example), then DPC latency issues will become your worst nightmare.

Fine, the wearing out of gold switches is pretty much irrelevant, but the optical switch eliminates it entirely.
Mate, these LEDs cost nothing and their power draw is completely irrelevant to the batteries of wireless mice. You get budget mice with optical switches nowadays. And m3/etc are usually mechanical (non-gold) because they're still cheaper and these buttons are used far less, so not nearly as prone to failure.
And optical switches donβt run through βtwo DACsβ. They use a photodiode circuit with nanosecond propagation delay, far below debounce times (which are in the ms range). Yes, good mice with SPDT switches and proper firmware handling have virtually no debounce delay (it's <1ms), but you need no such trickery for optical switches.
I will agree that if you buy at the highest quality, then the difference between optical and mechanical is irrelevant in terms of durability, delay, and cost. It mostly comes down to the actually feeling of a mouse click, which is personal preference. But when compared to "normal" mechanical switches, nah, optical switches are superior.

retard
LED is the most power-hungry feature on a modern mouse, far outstripping the MCU and photosensor
even the sensor's "power draw" is mostly from the infrared LED hence why all LEDs in wireless mice have aggressive dormancy states

it is true and what's more, pixart will gouge you on prices for sensors if you're a small company making mice. i was paying $50 for PMW3360 when it was new while the big companies could get them for $20 or less for their "collaboration" version with minor firmware tweaks. razer and logitech in a sense collude with pixart, it's a mutual relationship based on paranoia.
pixart's sensors are also full of random bugs, the QC on firmware is not good nowadays, to the extent that you might say older sensors are superior in reliability. eg.:

characterizing wireless vs wired mice as only being about 0.3ms of latency is simply inaccurate. wired mice are more accurate for various reasons. one of EMI. your wireless mouse experiences unavoidable interference from many things, including 2.4ghz wifi, poorly shielded microwaves (and almost all of them are poorly shielded,) your neighbor's microwave, competing 2.4ghz devices like printers, etc.
i guarantee if you download MouseTester and microwave a hot pocket, your wireless mouse's report graph will show hundreds/thousands of errant reports. your wired mouse won't unless the cable is utter dogshit. if it's an 8khz mouse it REALLY won't because the cable shielding has to be very very good on 8khz mice.

i doubt it, has to do with the materials the switchs are made of. plastic just doesn't stand up to decade+ of wear and tear like that.

nta but my superlight 2 is fine
plastic is sturdy, battery doing fine and side buttons arent really mushy
if youre playing games where you would use them a lot i could see why you wouldnt like them but they still have a clicky switch
i did hear the superlight ergo was flimsy as fuck though beacuse they didnt add enough support for the larger size, i guess to keep weight down

I just want a mouse of reliable build that that doesn't have double clicking, mouse wheel jumping, programmable DPI button on the fucking BOTTOM OF THE MOUSE or the thumb button that fucks with your grip.
All while not being too small, flat as fuck for no reason, or having the stupid holes to make it "light".
Does something like this even exist in the current grift economy? I pretty much gave up.

I've been using this mod for 16 months and the coating is just as good but it discolored as you can see.
Now that Gwolves released the Fenrir/Fenris there's no point to the Cyber 4.

It is extremely fucking bad.
I wanted to try either Basilisk V3 or G502X. Ended up having big gripes with both that could have been fixed if they just stopped putting dumb shit on otherwise decent-feeling mice.
G502X and non-X are utter shit to hold onto. X has the thumb button detatchable but the whole ergonomics are just garbo, plus double clicking because the switches are not fully optical.
Basilisk V3 has a non-removable thumb button, and people complain about the wheel giving out too.
I'm sticking to the death adder V3 right now because it's as close as I can get to something ok. And I just RMA'd it because the wheel would start jumping or missing some ticks.

it stops double clicks entirely
they are caused by poor connections in the switch but since the optical switch is just a laser that checks if its being blocked or not you cant get two clicks unless you actually press twice
i never had that issue with the scroll wheel youre talking about but scroll wheels are always optical afaik

This thing is a piece of shit and the wire is so shoddy the entire mouse breaks in the most esoteric of ways within a few years. Bought it for my dad to replace my hand-me-down G400 which started having connection issues and now it's worthless. The old G400 actually still functions even with its own wire problems. I'm glad they discontinued it even if it was for the most cynical reasons imaginable to prevent more people from being suckered in.
