I feel like there's a caveat. While it feels like the games got worse from a writing/dialog/direction standpoint the gameplay and mechanics feel like they're getting better each time. BL3 is like the pinnacle of the series for gameplay and even Wonderlands had similar mechanics and felt good even if everything else was so grating. 4 could potentially still improve on it too.

I play soldiers first thing so Rafa is a no brainer, but I'm really not sure where to branch out after that. Amon seems extremely action skill centric with less of a focus on his normal weapons, Vex is the most generic of all the Sirens as was their intention when designing her, and now Harlowe seems to be the gimmick character of the bunch. I guess it will all come down to how their other passive skills work. Maybe Vex then because she's the most soldierlike of the Sirens and effectively has a "turret" action skill anyway.

I hate brown people and fags but it really doesnt bother me in a post-apocalyptic world like borderlands

I just went through the skill trees on the website to get an idea as to how each VH plays. Rafa was the only one that I could see myself wanting to test out all three skills and trees, which was a surprise to me. Vex had two skills/trees that interested me: the Eldritch Blast one and the Familiar one. Amon might be fun to play as if he doesn't have an insufferable personality, provided I stick with the rocket punch or the axes. Harlowe's elemental shtick is pretty cool, though I'll have to see her skills in action to determine if I wanna play as her.

I usually play a Siren and/or an elemental damage specialist for my first playthrough, but I might end up going with Rafa for my solo game. All that's really left is to determine if I can stand their personalities. I don't give a shit about story in a game like this, so that's easy enough to tune out, I just hope it doesn't overstay its welcome and is relatively unobtrusive.

Huh? BL3 had much better movement and gunplay than previous games, alongside adding in more customization for action skills. The only thing I'd say they fucked up gameplay-wise was legendary droprates and the oversaturated loot pool.
