If you have Proton or Wine installed system-wide you can just associate .exe with those. Right click - open with - other - select "wine" or "proton" and select "always open with this app". Or if you're on KDE Plasma, right click a file - properties - "Change" (open with) - "Add+" - select wine/proton and push it up in the priority list.
However, doing this will always use the same wine prefix for everything and you lose the ability to compartmentalize your games into different prefixes and you lose the ability to easily switch wine versions, among many other things. It's just more convenient to use something like Bottles and think of it like a console emulator.

You should never do this, always do a clean install. Your /home has a bunch of shit you wouldn't want to transfer to a clean install, especially if you're switching to a different distro.
And yes, wine prefixes are stored in your /home. If they were created on your previous install then stuff can be broken if you just do a simple copy-paste. That's why people use stuff like Bottles, they allow you to manage them much easier and back them up without issues.

I mean, think about it logically. Your home is not just storing the configs and cache of apps you manually install. It's storing settings related to your distro and DE. If you move to a completely different distro or desktop environment, you'll often have incompatible configs or leftover files which are no longer needed.
Home is nothing more than your user directory, but it's in most cases not fully transferable. You're supposed to cherry-pick files to back up, rather than just backing up the whole thing.
The only time it's "transferable" is if you're reinstalling the same distro, the same version of it, and you keep the same user name.

I'll be honest, (software compatibility aside) Windows 7 was cumbersome compared to Linux even as far as 10 years ago (when I was experimenting with it and dual booting). At least when it comes to using the desktop. Linux desktop environments are so much better than what Windows offers even today. (Well, at least KDE is. The only thing that changed in the past 10 years is Wine/Proton compatibility with Windows games and software. Right now as of Proton10 all of my games are playable, which is a significantly better situation than 3+ years ago when only half of my library was playable.
I made a permanent switch and I'm not missing anything. After my tinkering phase years ago now I just settled with Bazzite which is as plug-and-play as you can get in an OS.

Because there's multiple features missing which are only supported on Windows. And the driver situation is confusing as fuck. And wayland support is not as stable, depending on the GPU. And many distros don't ship with nVidia drivers pre-installed, while AMD and Intel are plug and play.

You can, it has a GUI for everything an average person would need and more. And you can always install additional GUI applications. My main computer's command line history is empty, for example. And multiple of my tech illiterate family members and friends are using it without any issues (most of them don't even know what a command line is).

The only exception is if you're installing software using rpm-ostree or BoxBuddy/distrobox, which are optionally there for advanced users and there's no GUI for installing software using those. But, if you were an advanced user you wouldn't mind using a CLI, so I assume you won't need it at all.

The only issue you'll find is that, if you have any questions, people will often communicate in command lines because commands are agnostic to the desktop environment you have (and in many cases commands are more convenient or more detailed)

Skill issue (probably*), but there's one built into Steam now. I don't know a MangoHud alternative for non-Steam usage.
* I've had trouble getting it to work in some old games, but if you can't get it working in any game then your shit's all fucked up. If not using Vulkan/DXVK/VKD3D then you'll generally have to use the mangohud executable instead of setting MANGOHUD=1. If the game uses Direct3D 8 then, at least in my experience, MangoHud might not work unless you enable D8VK, which you should probably do anyway (and can be done in Proton 9+ by setting PROTON_DXVK_D3D8=1). If you don't know how to set environment variables then ask ChatGPT to hallucinate a wrong answer for you and then switch back to Windows.

The typical Linux gaming experience is clicking "Play" in Steam, and for the games that don't just work, the fix is more likely to involve tweaking some Proton setting via the launch options than running winetricks (or protontricks). Not that it really matters, because if the idea of typing `winetricks [thing]` or `protontricks [app id] [thing]` into a terminal is intimidating then frankly you should replace your desktop computer with an iPad. Generally, no it doesn't. Maybe you looked up a program that's only available through Flatpak. Or maybe you're LARPing and never touched Linux Mint. Flatpak is there, but the user isn't railroaded into using it, and the latest version of Mint even has warning that Flatpak packages are bloated and potentially unsafe.
Even if the Flatpak version of a program comes up first in a search for some reason (maybe because it has more downloads or whatever), you can still switch to the system package if there is one, and the system package is first in that drop-down list.

It solves the issue of distro maintainers packaging software and acting as middlemen between you and the original developer/publisher, often delaying updates for no reason (LTS/stable distros) or breaking shit (like fedora/ubuntu did in past), which ultimately makes the OS unusable. Flatpak/Appimage as a default is a must on Linux.

-r flips the logs so view the latest first, -p err shows only errors.
Use PGUP/PGDN to scroll through logs until you find the time of the crash.
I would be very surprised if there is nothing there.

Where Linux complete loses the fucking plot is if you have any deviation from that; say swapping video/audio out to a tv for watching a movie. If you mean in gaming, AMD on Linux and Windows has basically equal performance. Also, handheld gaming devices have way better gaming performance on linux. Nvidia is still not there, thanks to Nvidia fuckery. It's improving though.
Outside of gaming linux is way faster. Kinda helps to not have an entire botnet spying on you. My linux install uses far below 1GB ram at idle and almost 0% CPU.
