Trip outright failed as a character. Because she's stuck in a horrible 2D Sonic game there's very little focus on storytelling so imitating the old style cut scenes was never going to make her captivating as a character. Hell Knuckles' character arc in the OLD sprites are barely functional. But nowadays with so much tech improvement? Trying to do some mute character development was never going to help Trip. She comes off as a half assed character and being a girl version of Knuckles doesn't help her. Another idiot who got tricked by the obvious villains.

Marine on the other hand failed for being aggressively annoying. No one liked that annoying bitch.

And Sticks is not even made by Sega in the ABSOLUTE SENSE. And she's tied to Sonic Boom which is the second biggest Sonic Game Failure that sold even worse than Sonic 06. So she's got a negative reputation by association and while she has her fans Sega sees no reason to include her. And not everyone likes her because as usual Shitty Furries don't count as people.

Sega has better characters to invest in to put in here. Even using Tikal and Chaos would be better received than any of these.

This. The other racing games don't really embrace crossovers like this series does. And in case it needs to be said characters from within the same company doing inter crossovers don't count. I'm not impressed when I saw Spongebob racing against Invader Zim in Nickelodeon's Racing Game or seeing Shrek racing against How To Train Your Dragon in the recent Dreamworks Racing Game.

Sega is the only one who is broadening horizons and going for outside of its banner. Could it be done better? Yes, but the effort is appreciated.
