Wit affects variance of your maximum speed at the early and middle leg, and you want your speed there to be as high as possible to keep good position, so you can activate the busted accel skills.

If you want to use umas that has lower wit, just use Late (Vodka/Grass) or End (Golshi/Taishin) so you don't really need good position to accel.

It activates if you're at final corner and higher than 5th. So basically for front runners it should always activate when final corner starts, in Cancer's track this is before the final leg starts so the acceleration does nothing. It helps that most parents are front runners which have an easier time in the career races too. If you struggle, drop a skill hint card for something that will get you through career better. It's not like you get every skill hint as a spark anyway
