Mega Man has always been an impossible hurdle for me. I first tried playing MMZ as a teen and it was the hardest game I've ever played to this very day, never finished the first level. Every Mega Man game I've ever tried had me ragequitting on the first level. Now I'm learning how to play the original Mega Man. Just beat it with using the rewind function. Now I'm going to beat it again without any crutches. Mega Man is cool and I'm having fun.

Regardless of difficulty you will eventually work out some consistent rhythm to get back to the boss, and that's the point where it becomes tedious. I wish I'd taken on this mindset sooner. I wasted roughly 10 hours of my life playing Xenogears and Chrono Trigger, waiting for them to get good, but they never did. These days, if I'm not having fun within the first hour or so, I'm dropping the game.

I don't think that's even entirely true. Like plenty of normalfags are grinding ranked on CS or Valorant. Some of the biggest normalfags I know with wives, kids, good jobs, and tons of friends play DOTA and get proud of ranking up. I feel like the only person who sticks out and finished a majority of the games that I play, I think I've only dropped like 5 games in the past 10 years and even then I usually come back to them years later to give them another shot. I've played games for hours in hopes they get fun and most of the time I'm rewarded. I always stick with it no matter what.

I didn't enjoy Iconoclasts until I was 9 hours in, didn't enjoy the original Quake until I was on the 3rd episode, didn't enjoy the Souls series (playing 3 games and dropping each of them several hours in) until I played Elden Ring and I returned to all of them to beat them, didn't enjoy Donkey Kong Country until I played 2, didn't enjoy Monkey Island until I reached the island, didn't enjoy Gunvalkyrie until 4 hours in, didn't enjoy Wonderful 101 until Tables Turns played for the first time, didn't enjoy Devil May Cry until I played 3 etc.

I always give games a chance, no matter what and I feel more people should too even if it's a fucking pain for half of the runtime, you never know when something might grab you right at the end. I fucking love Iconoclasts, Demons Souls, Monkey Island, Donkey Kong Country 2, Devil May Cry 1 and Wonderful 101 after ACTUALLY giving them a shot despite disliking them for a long time while playing.

I will say that sometimes it doesn't work out, I didn't like Okami after 20 hours and gave up the playthrough but it's still installed on my PS3 waiting for me to return to it and I will. I never completely write off games that I dropped unless I really found no enjoyment out of them.

I know people would want to use their time more efficiently sometimes and don't wanna risk it on a shitty game for 20 hours but I've been surprised so many times that I never want to drop things anymore unless it's a 50 hour experience that I'm feeling nothing for by hour 30.
