Deadlock has kelvin who throws healing/damaging frost grenades, creates a huge impenetrable bubble that regens your team and constantly runs around in the sky on a frozone ice path (combos with the neutral item that can pull people to you while healing them, saving allies). For snipers they have grey talon (shoots huntsman arrows on steroids that deal hundreds if not thousands of damage) and vindicta (instant sniper shot that mostly executes low hp enemies), both these guys fly

I'm hopeful about Deadlock because some of the developers realized they were developing the nth raging competitive goyslop game in a row (it was preceded by Underlords, Artifact, CSGO and Dota 2) so they're working on more casual gamemodes to play instead. Bluefort sucked for multiple reasons and one of them was pretty much gutting snipers to the point where corridors were too small, there were barricades in multiple places to duck behind of and every single location had a flank route or two, just because of e-celeb opinions. Then there's that video about how the game played out without snipers even though it would play out somewhat similarly if several other classes like scouts, soldiers, demos and heavies were individually toggled off because the game is somewhat designed in such a way that other classes can pick up some slack, and only some classes would significantly alter the game if toggled off (Medic, for example, can fight against sentry nest spam via uber). Sniper's "kill the high-value targets" niche was filled out by Spy.

I've played Dota 2 since the beta.

I've fully switched over because it being a shooter hybrid makes the gameplay more engaging and for the time being playing in the higher ranks is actually fun with your teammates communicating and cooperating most matches.

It will probably turn into Dota and LoL after it's no longer invite only with screeching mentally ill 15 year olds throwing even in high mmr, but for now it's the most fun I've had in a MOBA in 10 years.

There is in fact, probably no bigger demographic. Not only that, they are more likely to play competitive games. I could see vindictas ulti just being a passive that gives her a sniper rifle. The issue is that the game isn't designed for long-range combat, the only reliable damage dealer beyond max falloff range is pretty much gay talon and vindicta through arrow and asssassinate, and even then assassinate doesn't deal that much damage (honorable mentions to shiv, sinclair and paradox, but not really). If you give vindicta a sniper rifle it changes how the game is played drastically as nobody can ever be in the open against her. then again, the map is pretty crowded and heroes with drastically different playstyles are needed.

Pretty doubtful. This is Icefrog's new baby and at this point he's pretty much the most influential actual dev at Valve. Artifact was spearheaded by Richard Garfield, creator of MtG who was hired by Valve as a contractor to make the game. After he finished Valve didn't re-up the contract even though Garfield said he would have kept working on the game if they paid him. It's not clear what happened there but something obviously did. I get the feeling there were people at Valve who were not thrilled about hiring an expensive contractor when they already have so many expensive employees working there. On top of that, Valve's flat coorporate structure is pretty well known but what a lot of people seem to not know is you get bonuses there based on actually producing something. What that means is the more Deadlock gets closer to release, the easier it will be for Icefrog ot get people working on as working on a new game that actually gets finished is going to get you a better evaluation than adding the 900th useless feature to Dota 2. This is also why that used to happen so much, it was people desperately trying to ship something to justify earning their keep and for awhile Dota 2 was the most played game they had.

But there's a valid point in making abilities more skillful, but to do that they would have to make them less cooldown bound. take lash, he has one easy to hit skill in ground pound that requires positioning and movement to use effectively, and then one basically guaranteed to hit skill in flog. But if you make flog more difficult to hit, then you're basically totally useless for the 15-30 seconds in which it's put on cooldown. With a gun hero, a bad player will have a hit rate of maybe 10-30%, but that's still 10-30% effectiveness, so they're at least doing SOMETHING between their cooldowns. On the other hand if you make flog stronger but more difficult to hit, being able to consistently aim it makes the character too strong. The solution would be to make flog more like a weapon than an ability, and I'd love for the game to have actually unique weapons.

His other game originally titled Jihad, now Vampire: The Eternal Struggle and his other card game Netrunner are two of the longest running and most popular card games outside of the big ones. Part of that is on his merit of making MtG yes but if you actually go look at his list of games he's created it is extensive and many of them have achieved modest success. Both Hero Shooters and Arena Shooters are really shaky genres where it isn't entirely clear what defines them. the character writing in Deadlock varies a lot. Vyper is one of the best written characters in any multiplayer game. Meanwhile, Wraith talks like she's from Concord. Everyone else is somewhere on a spectrum between those two points (Seven is Vyper tier, Paige is Wraith tier, Vindicta is in the middle, etc.)

One thing I appreciate about Deadlock is that the item names are almost all no fluff, they just say what they are pretty succinctly. Even ones that have more cryptic names like Spiritual overflow you can figure out from context clues.

Just sounds like a really flimsy way to define a genre. Especially when you look at how the genre title was actually coined and see how it lost all meaning when it got co-opted by overwatch.

While talking character voice lines, oh I missed when characters could be genuine assholes to one another and can get pretty seedy (Billy fucking Vyper in a dark alley way after the ritual).

Overwatch is a hero shooter, because its characters are heroes. They have unique names and a bevy of skills, including an ultimate. That's a hero. TF2 has classes. The characters are not unique, they represent a class of characters, and they do not have skills, they have weapon loadouts. It is very obvious what the difference between the two is and the only people pretend it's not obvious are the people who want TF2 to be a hero shooter for some reason (when it isn't).

I should probably clarify - like I do every single time I post this - that originally I counted all female characters. I made this list as a way of seeing whether Deadlock really was woke/DEI/whatever compared to other hero-based games, since so many anons seem to think so. So originally I just made a column for women, because why even have girls in an action games? But a lot of anons thought I was gay for that and they kept citing other games as being superior just because it has hot girls in it. Personally, I think if your roster is full of scantily clad Disney princesses, it's just as bad as it being full of transgender mystery meat people, so I decided to make a coombait column where I judged what percentage of the female characters were just there for the porn. But of course that isn't good enough, because anons strongly disagree with me on that topic and would say hot girls = good, and eventually they won me over. I thought, "You know what? If you're going to put foids in my video game, they should at least be nice to look at." So I made a third column and hid the other two off to the side. This column takes the percentage of female characters and subtracts the fapbait ones, leaving the "not porn star" characters, which I just call Ugly for short. What gets you in this column? You can't give me a boner (eg. Hoodwink) or look like you were supposed to give me a boner (eg. I don't find Queen of Pain hot, but she's obviously supposed to be). Ivy, like Hoodwink, is loved by everyone, she literally cannot be Ugly with those parameters. Same with Geist. I'm not a fan of Geist, I feel nothing for her, but she's obviously SUPPOSED to be attractive and lots of people think so, so she's spared.

I'm pretty sure my list was Calico, Haze, Holliday, McGinnis, Vyper, Wraith and Yamato.
