Damn you guys weren't kidding, Kats Trigger is some hilarious edgekino.
I don't think anything else has topped how funny this is.
Some arenas and cutscenes were a bit too long for my liking, and there's some translation jank, but this is a definite wishlist for me. Will have to check what demos are still available, but what a way to cap off the fest.

Quarantine Zone: The Last Check It's a fun concept because it's a translation of Papers, Please but about identify pre-zombified humans and send them to the slaughterhouse or a refugee
The demo is certainly rough, with unnecessary and poorly implemented management mechanics like the cart and the aerial drone defense, but these are things they promise to fix for the full game.

I found it to be just 'okay', not as tightly designed as Katana Zero, some of those arena sequences seriously go on for longer than I'd like, but it was alright once I got the hang of the controls. The last boss had some award animations during the first two phases though

Wall World 2 felt like they took every bad feedback from the first game, what a letdown

Bottoms up: Fun brawler, more so as the girl. Enemy defenses are overtuned which makes it very spammy but its still fun

Himura Hime: Well presented 3d action game with style meter. Bit bored of "le cute girl" games tbqh and that's really the style its going for.
Found an infinite within the tuotiral, barrier mchanics are just time wasting, but its well-presented and feels good to hit stuff in

Meh:
Nezori: Another 3D animu waifu game. Maps are huge, enemies absurdly numerous, default control scheme extremely questionable (dash is on select lol). Feels good to hit stuff though.


Monsters are cumming: Weird tower defense hybrid where your towers are one clump and constantly move. Boring upgrades. No personality

Maid of Salvation:
3D anime girl waifu action game number 3. Top down with metroidvania style progression. Very simple combat, but very consistent. Not much to say; its meh

Firily: It feels like alistraba starring some guys hamster. Much uglier and weirder, though.

Dream Echo: Terrible goddamn UI, mediocre combat, but fun builds. Roguelite brawler.

Gunflare: Functional but meh NT style roguelite shooter

Gutterworld: Alien expy assassin game. Very sloppy combat and barely any options to manipulate enemy sightlines. Also standing on a box 100% beats every enemy in the demo. But the executions are cool.

Tears of metal: Manlet power fantasy. Kind of like a warriors game iwth just 1 guy but meh

Bad:

Being able to kara cancel into parry at any point is disappointing though. You can just mash heavies and parry anything that comes your way save for unblockable attacks.

Taste of the Wind. I expected a cute cooking game, but you don't do any of that, you just worry about making numbers go up, however that works since it's not so obvious to figure out. There's lots of dialogue to click through, guess having mountains of text is the staple of Chinese gamedev. The illustrations are kinda pretty.

The basic loop is that you have a few minutes to do some mining and craft materials that you can use to build up some portal structure, after which hostile crystal lifeforms will show up and attack the structure, potentially destroying parts of it, so you have to fend them off until the structure packs up and prepares for evacuation. After evacuating, you can spend resources during transit to a new map on upgrades to help mine or defend better.
The goal seems a bit incomprehensible right now but there's potential in how it might unfold in the full game.

Apparently, the demo just got updated yesterday with a tech tree overhaul so you'll have a better idea of how progression is going to be like.

Fun prince of persia style platformer with simple but satisfying 1-Hit kill (both ways) combat. Really enjoyed that the bosses uniquely lean towards being big platforming puzzles rather than trying to force the awkward combat as the focus, sort of like what Pseudoregalia did in the end which I didn't like there.

A good RE clone, pretty self explanatory. Sexy korean butt.
>Queen's Domain
Didn't actually get to play a demo for it but it's a good looking first-person dungeon crawler.

Trippy visuals skateboarding game. Mostly played it for the music, stayed because I was enjoying the trick combat.

It's rebooted Little Nightmares but optionally co-op, made by the original devs after they lost the rights to the IP. Played splitscreen with a friend and would recommend it that way too.

TPS action story game, but the story is sort of beans and the dialogue kind of sucks, but the gameplay grew on me by the end and I enjoyed it. Something tells me it'll be pricey at launch so I'll probably wait for a sale.

They didn't expand enough outside of the management stuff, I feel, and a lot of mechanics are not obvious and you need to dig deeper and read a lot where the game dumps it all in one or two places. Also, translation is sloppy and more than I expected wasn't translated. The time limit is also a bit too short, 5 years to pay off that much money with a restaurant is stretching. I agree the art is great though.

The game works most similar to https://store.steampowered.com/app/397060/Faeria/ the mana wells can capture + the once per turn pick mana / draw / or resource threshold like how the seasons in rinrinki work. Rather than move around a hero unit you lay tiles that you can summon on but think rinrinki was inspire by this because of how close those systems work. The game's main focus is pvp but has fun 2p co-op vs bosses (can have AI teammate) + a draft vs AI mode.

In terms of specifically SP roguelike ones:
Abalon - control hero unit and summon creatures to move around a grid. Lots of chaining attacks by bashing enemies into allies stuff like that
DungeonTop - place many units on a grid but less focus on movement
usurper - literally chess with weird units + cardgame

and then less similar cardslop with some board game bits:
alina of the arena - only control one unit but positioning matters a lot with gladiator theme to pick up items etc
trials of fire - mix of RPG control a team of 3 where cards in deck are determined by equipped gear on each member. Also lots of positioning units like holding off choke points / line of sight with archers etc.

Didn't see much talk of this one, nice little game if you have a buddy to play with. Main objective is to clean pollution and there's lime, iron, and food to harvest. Food is consumed over time and if any player runs out it's gg. Upgraded units and buildings are locked to the player who unlocks it but resources can be traded. Better units are needed to get through walls. Only two stages in the demo, first one is trivial as a nice introduction, second one does take a minimum amount of planning to not cut it close on the food.

There's a reason that the only three actions after initiating contact with a robot are to being oneshotted, oneshot them, or, in a lucky situation, parry the hit.. The point is that they're quick impediments as you platforming, because that's what it is, a fucking platforming game like Mirror's Edge or Prince of Persia. Focusing on deep "combat" would be a huge mistake.

Another next fest goes by, no new stealth games (that matter or had effort put into them). I've given up on indie developers. My patience with them has grown thin. They're not doing anything that is so risky that double A or Triple A publishing wouldn't fund. It's sad to continue to see so little genre diversity. It's sad to see less risky games being made in general. Pahologic 2 is a remake of the first one, not a sequel.
But it's a closer to the way movies do remakes in a sense that it's not just a port to a new engine but many and many things are reworked including some characters.
However original game had 3 (2,5) playable campaigns with 3 different protagonists while P2 only covers one campaign. P3 covers another campaign and who knows when we will see the final one.
Also it's worth mentioning that while in P1 all three campaigns had almost identical gameplay with differences only in the story, P3 goes for something new and fresh in the way its played.

So answering to your question: you don't have to play P1 but it will be a good idea to play P2 since P2 and P3 happen at the same time.

There are people who prefer P1 to P2 but preferences in artistry aside P2 is just a better game with more fleshed out mechanics and better presented narration.
The only objective advantage P1 has over P2 is more story due to 3 campaigns versus 1 in P2.

They're very connected, but standalone. Pathologic 1 has three characters you can play and those three character routes are being remade and extended with 2 and 3 and eventually 4. They're different perspectives on the same story. You don't need to play one character to understand the story of another. It'll just give you a bigger understanding of the full overarching story the more characters you play. So essentially, you can play them in any order. 1 being split up into 3 games means you can ditch it if it doesn't look as appealing to you though and you can stick to the remakes. Or you can play only 1. Or only play one game of the bunch.

I think it was Alice and Dada because I assume when Lyle went to chamber room after he discovered Cotari's legs were cut off either Alice or Dada blocked the door from locking up(I remember one scene which mentioned it could be possible) and one of them stabbed Cotari. Also Dada could be the only one who could unwrap Cotari's bandages without triggering her Pathosync.
And I have some assumptions about entire case: Cotari's legs were cut off long before Lyle went into infirmary, Believer moved Cotari's hand from box, put them on the ground and stuffed the box with legs which he got from someone through the window without making Eirys notice in 5 minutes window when Silas went take a piss BUT that assumes this thing wouldn't count as direct case intervention, Dada either has multiple personalities or have wolf form(bite marks on believer and her smelling blood from)
I had a theory but now I am not so sure because I can't explain some things like blood splattered over infirmary room(Cotari's blood loss is slow so even if hse was dismembered it shouldn't make such a big blood pool)

I thought it was a really bold move to pretend to be an interspecies romance game between a sheep and a wolf for your demo, because, most people who play demos don't play long enough to even see the joke pay off.

It was doubly effective for me since I had a habit of not looking at the store pages closely before downloading hundreds of demos. I had no idea it was supposed to be a horror game so the reveal was really funny.

Anyway, yeah, you have no taste, like I said, from the beginning.

Tears of metal looks fantastic superficially but for some reason it just feels like shit
Combat doesnt flow well you just spam heavy combos to trigger the effects
Every time I reached the boss I died super fast without really seeing what damaged me

Turns out, it really was the entire first chapter.
Finished it just under 7 hours in game save time.

Pacing kind of slow, but I think it's important for the mood. Has to show the build up of anxiety both in the protag and the reader along with internal monologue and convictions.
As much as I could do without simple fetch quests during the non-combat periods they serve to slowly feed more backstory and character that I found myself looking forward to.
Initially kind of hated the combat but as your energy pool increases, you get multiple weapon types, and multi enemy encounters can get very tactical while feeling tight when you play (hit the qtes) well.
Might be some visual delay and or input issues though, I swear to fuck I didn't miss press as many things as the game though I did.
2d dungeon with some shortcuts and interconnections felt satisfiyng to explore. I can only see the level design improving with each chapter.

Story has me hooked, I have a lot of theories of how this is going to go, and all of them lead towards suffering.

It took me a while to differentiate faces as well. Enough small details in the characters who actually have character that it works out.
The art style really grew on me as I went.
