Then have one chosen as the active one.
When not used by anyone it'll possess the default skin, then once a rider is one it'll swap to their set skin.
Every air rider has a pretty distinct look to them so altering the skin/appearance shouldn't matter much.
Even Wheelie bike and scooter are different enough to not mix them up.

I think part of the reason for all this is merchandising. HAL already talked before about how they found it interesting that these old characters could still resonate with younger audiences when they were releasing Star Allies DLC

The gummy feature just proves to me that Sakurai just does whatever makes him happy in games.
