I'm excited for it. I am not buying a Switch 2 and I am not supporting the anticonsumer practices of this console generation.
That said, Sakurai produces solid work, I loved Kirby Air Ride, and I can tell he's firing on all cylanders into making this game. I'm very excited to play it at my friend's house tomorrow and pirate it later.

Sakurai already said this was another one of his famous non-Smash one-offs, the only reason he made a new Air Ride in the first place is because he had way more opportunities to expand upon or introduce new ideas that the tech of the 2000's was unable to fulfill.
He's probably gonna be jumping right into Smash again after this though, whether that be Ultimate (Switch 2 Edition exclusive content) or a new game that can comfortably try the reboot angle in order to co-exist with Ultimate.

the city trial thing looks like fucking versus mode in mario kart, aka not interested nor fun, but seemingly that's the main reason to buy the game for many people. i don't get it. it's 5 minutes of frantic running around which could be fun and then everything is decided in a single 30 second long mini game at the end? just doesn't make sense to me.

There's a ton of shit in this game, and it all looks more polished than anything else on the Switch 2, and most things on the Switch, to say nothing of the rest of the industry. There won't be any DLC, there are no dark pattern skinner box techniques at play, and the worst thing you can say about it is that they're selling a handful of overpriced plastic novelties to go with it. But you miss out on almost nothing (In practice, you literally miss out on nothing, because you'll be able to clone the miniscule practical consequence of the NFC data less than 24 hours after the toys hit store shelves. Maybe even before they do.)
