Its worse, AJ was spoiled and barely taught any real morals or value of hard work. Granted, neither was Tony or his father but the point is its an endless cycle of self-destruction that will probably continue on forever. Meadow is a mob apologist and is marrying the son of a mobster. AJ is working for a guy who is also the son of and highly affiliated with the mob. I appreciate David Chase for showing us the disgusting nature of italian americans and the mafia compared to Martin Scorsese who glorified them in all of his works.

Sometimes I wonder if I'd be better off if my parents were outright abusive rather than just immensely neglectful (like they let me drop out in the 7th grade) and constantly yelling at each other. Maybe it would have driven me to improve things and get away from them rather than wallowing. I'd probably just be even more fucked up, of course, but I wonder.

23 is the cutoff. By 18, you should already be out of your parent's house and getting your college degree while working to provide your own income. By 23, you should already have your bachelor's degree and fully aware of what career path you would like to take. By 27, you should already have your career locked down, your retirement planned out and a house to own. Men should marry a woman in her young 20's at the absolute max, to ensure that their future children do not have any defects like autism.
If you're in your 30's and still playing video games, then keep playing them as you were never going to amount to anything anyway. Enjoy serving me fries while I'm taking my family on a skiing trip.

My dad always tried to get me into hobbies but never actually participated in those hobbies with me. He just bought me shit and expected me to figure it out myself and like it, then acted disappointing when I didn't enjoy it which made me feel guilty and like he didn't want anything to do with me which was probably true. He bought me one of those gasoline RC helicopters but never taught me how to fly, I just watched him fly it a few times until he crashed one time and broke it. He told me stories of how much fun he and a friend of his had it with paintballing, but he never let took me paintballing or let me shoot one. He worked as an engineer for the airforce, so it wasn't like he didn't have money to take me places and do stuff with me, I can only recall once how he let me come into work with him and look at the jets despite how much he knew I liked planes and military stuff as a kid.
When I was 19 he told me he'd pay half for a scuba certificate since they were holding a course in his town, I took it then he didn't say anything more about it until years later when he told me he could pay half for a full set of scuba gear. Since my dad also had gone scuba diving a lot before I thought that this was finally something we could do together as father and son, but he had quit years ago and every time I hinted at or asked him about it he just dismissed it saying "nah I sold all my equipment years ago" or "I haven't done it in so long" "I don't have time" etc. I even told him I haven't found anyone else to go scuba diving with either but he didn't seem to care.
The equipment we bought have been stuffed away in my closet for nearly 10 years now

Thanks for reading my blog

Kind of adds up in a way, a child with no other mentors will try to emulate whichever adult is primarily in their life, often to have something in common with them as that anon indicated, but when all that fails the child has two paths, project their frustrations with not being recognized onto others and their own children or empathize and try to course correct, usually with the irony that others will then tell them to back off and stop being clingy.

My dad was super athletic and sporty guy in his youth. Ever since I was a wee lad he tried to get me into various physical activities, be it judo or orienteering or just simple shit like taking jogs with him, but at my core, I fucking despise physical activity because I was and still am a lazy piece of shit that would rather spend time playing videogames or drawing or doing other nerd shit.

My little sister was a bit more sporty than I but my dad didn't manage to get her interested in physical activities beyond occasionally partaking in them with him.

My youngest brother is basically just a copy of me, same sort of nerdy sperg.

Let that be a lesson in genetics, even if your dad is a gigachad, you may just not inherit those genes and instead become a meek and shy because you instead inherited genes for being a fucking nerd from your mom.

Here is my parental issues TED talk:

Everyone can have parental issues, they just manifest differently. The worst is having issues with the opposite gender parent. This is why guys with daddy issues aren't so noticeable - they tend to just be overachievers trying to gain their father's approval, which is a socially acceptable outcome.

Same gender issues aren't as much of a problem because a person can provide that energy for themselves. A guy with daddy issues can do ok because he has his own inherent masculine energy. Similarly, a girl with mommy issues can more or less handle her own needs for feminine energy.

The real problems are opposite gender problems, girls with daddy issues and guys with mommy issues. A girl can't fulfill her own needs for masculine parental energy the way she can with a mommy issue, and we all know how girls with daddy issues turn out. Guy with mommy issues are also completely fucked since they can't fulfill that missing maternal energy on their own. Mommy issue guys tend to be complete sociopaths. Of the four possibilities, I think mommy issue guys are the most fucked up.

Any age is too old for video games. More broadly, any age is too old for putting your happiness in a product controlled by a corporation because those people only care about making money, which does not always translate to the best product but a product that preys on the most addicted members of society.

The only decent hobbies worth in life are ones that are not dependent on corporations and ideally can be shared with other people. Cooking, gardening, some kind of craft, music, some sports, art, hunting.

If you're watching movies, playing video games, playing TCGs, or watching TV as your biggest hobbies, you are fucked and will never be happy because the corporations will fuck you; and if you are still happy about it it means you are one of the addicts they abuse for cash. You're just going to be some sad piece of shit who can't even tell kids about the video game you played X years ago because they have absolutely cannot relate, the same way old people today can't talk to the kids about anything because they didn't bother sharing fucking any interests with them.

He was an alcoholic and a womanizer. My mom got pregnant at 15 and had to run away a few months after I was born because he beat her up.

Her deeply Catholic family rejected her for getting pregnant at such a young age without being married and then for running away so in reality she had to raise me all alone while working part time and doing college.

He continued stalking her until she got a restraining order against him. An order that he broke so he ended up in jail for a while.

Meanwhile I was home alone most of the time so I had to "grow up" fast. That, and the fact that I became my mom's only family and emotional support, means that I got a stunted emotional development, I put everyone's needs before mine to my own detriment and I developed unhealthy incestuous feelings towards my mother.

In other words: I am a sick fuck and a loser without ambitions because I perceive my own needs as unimportant or even harmful.

every man i know who had a warm and loving father turned out to be an expressive and happy person. i also theorize that having a bad father is much worse for boys than having no father. this makes sense from an evolutionary perspective; if a good father should die defending his young son from animals/hunger/the elements/other humans, the son won't be cripplingly grief-stricken, and young boys easily find role models outside of their immediate family.

Nice blog.

The scuba-part reminds me of a somewhat similar thing between me and my dad.
I took an interest in scuba diving and suggested it to my dad, he agreed and we signed up for a certificate, did all the courses and whatnot. Had a good time learning and doing the dives and whatnot.
Then when all that was done we were going on a vacation where there'd be opportunities for scuba-diving.
We had one dive and he never dived again.

They got his counter-weight wrong or something so he struggled to control buoyancy and eventually had to surface.
I didn't notice for 30 seconds or so that he was gone (visibility was good so wasn't afraid he was fucking dead or something).

I think he's scared of appearing incompetent and thus avoids things that he doesn't excel at. Makes me sad though, it was a good experience up until then.

Father wasn't in my life. And my mom was and still is paranoid, stressed and judgmental.

I'm not going to have kids, but I'm involved with my nephews and nieces lives simply because I don't want them to be an over-analyzing, paranoid fag like their uncle. (and my sisters are terrible mothers) I'm proud of all of them in their own way, they had the confidence I lacked as a kid. There's some envy in that growing up, I dind't have someone to talk to on either side and my father was non-existent, while my mother basically didn't give too much of a shit in the grand scheme. She would ask questions and immediately judge my answers. SO I would just say things were fine.

My mom and I still barely can hold conversations because it;s still something she does. A couple of weeks ago, she asked me how things were going and I told her how happy I was with how things were going in life, left a shitty career for a better one, learned a lot on the job, making good money, took up a couple of hobbies and shit, things are going great. She responds, "You could've done Computers and made more money" to dampen the mood. I love my mother, but shit like that is why I'm not really open with her.

What >>724518305 said, the ability to actually look at yourself and find and admit problems is an unironic superpower that many don't have and goes a long way. You deserve to have things, to become your best self and obtain all that you desire, to obtain a better life, everyone does. You aren't a loser, it is never, NEVER, too late to change things. It is never too late to change your way of thinking. Never. Change your mindset, your self-beliefs, what you focus on and how you see things, into something more positive and you will do much, much, much better. Mindset is everything, your mind filters everything through the lens of your beliefs, so believe in things that uplift you, that give you strength, believe in the truth. Where there's a will, there's a way, you're gonna make it.
