In EO1's remake I still get fucked over by Iron Crabs in the final stratum.
They didn't do anything in the original game but this one they can just party wipe you because you didn't focus on killing all of them asap before anything else or only killed one in a group pf 3.

Towards the end in EO games, 5 different character's with unique skills and equipment felt too much and overloading.

I think 4 characters would be perfect, but the 5 man team in EO felt like it perfected its formula

I wouldn't consider the EO games to be targeted towards children.

They're not inappropriate for kids to play because they don't really contain much in the way of explicit content. But most kids would probably bounce off them hard unless they were already into turn-based RPGs (which for well over a decade by now has been the minority)

Most of EO3's bosses are closer to puzzles than regular bossfights where having the right moves makes them a thousand times easier. This guy for example is kind of a joke if you have electricity and anything that hits all enemies. For your first playthrough it's probably a good idea to leave a couple skill points on everyone uninvested so you can grab things to counter each boss after you get to them.

You did, I don't have the pictures saved with the actual numbers but EO2 is full of retarded shit like the Landsknecht's move that gains damage with life lost doing less damage at 1% HP than moves with no HP scaling a the same level and TP cost or the beast roar that scales from like 5% accuracy to 10% across 5 points and then jumps to 75% for the last one.

It's funny, when I said I do this a couple months ago, /v/ gaslighted me like I'm some kind of neurotic weirdo for being basically risk averse in a game where character builds are semi-permanent. Of course I later realized everyone is just going down to Picnic to re-grind their builds, which grants accelerated exp rates and easy farming and makes respeccing trivial. But at the time I was rawdogging everything, and it feels terrible getting to a stratum boss and realizing your builds are bad. One of the problems I have with these games, the "points poverty" - better to pretend you have fewer skill points than you do than to invest early and regret it later.

You either have to have the right stats (level) or have the right skills. There's no amount of tactics that can make a losing matchup into a winning one. And it's not like anyone is psychic and know what's good in advance. Picnic solves a problem that the games have - the obvious need to respec about midway through the game, but the annoying grind that comes with it. Generally you just do it once, after you've built up some points and seen what works and what doesn't. The problem is that what works isn't clear until around the 3rd stratum.

I love how OP poison was. In most games you poison the enemy and it chips them, or they resist, and it's shit. But in this it can be your main damage for most of the game. Very cool.

99% of people who got filtered at Narmer were basically just cruising through the dungeon, avoiding FoE's, and never really needing to worry about synergies or other class mechanics that can inflict colossal damage or make the party borderline unkillable. Narmer is basically the synergy check, and if you actually have your party well put together, you can eviscerate him with ease. If your party has been cruising on hitting "attack" and only using skills to beat away scary big monsters before running back to town, you're going to have a very bad time.

Considering 1U, 2U, and PQ1 ALL came between 4 and 5, the changes to the dungeon design leading to severe corridor > puzzle > corridor > puzzle > repeat made it underwhelming. That and the fact that they went with too "less" into the "less is more" concept like the OG NDS entries and it also feels smaller too.

You won't outdamage him if you're underleveled and have no good damage skills. I dunno why anons think they're so wickedly intelligent for smacking EO bosses. Every boss is a dual level and skill check.
I had a damagelet Ninja that was good at mob control, but bad at fighting bosses, and a Glad that did like nothing to him. Zodiac helped but she wasn't enough on her own. So I needed to grind like 2 or 3 more levels (to level ~14) to even damage Narmer quickly enough. Once I did that, it was easy.

I think FOEs are one of the best things about this franchise so I don't really see why that's an issue, having to maneuver around them with their patterns matching the player movement is something pretty unique to the franchise. And this was still a huge element of EO3 and 4. There's entire floors dedicated to maneuvering around them.
The issue is the games kinda suffer from QoL creep nowadays so there's a lot of ways to make FOE encounters unimpactful. Especially in the HD collection which allows you to save anywhere and just reload if you fuck up the puzzle. If they kept older FOE mechanics like not being able to escape if you're backed into a wall, then they would be more impactful.

Max rank lullaby trivializes 90% of random encounters if you give your farmer equipment to increase their speed like daggers/boots, Earth's Bounty gives 30% exp to everyone in the party at max rank, and they have every utility tool you could ever want.

At the end of the 2nd stratum you can subclass your farmer to whatever you want for boss fights too.

They're not "sub-optimal" in general, just not a class that's not designed for combat. Their exploration skills are actually very good and a main party farmer will make a lot of parts of the game much smoother. They can work perfectly well as an ailment/bind/support role in combat depending on how you subclass them. I used a farmer/gladiator and both the arm bind and panic club skills work well with farmer. Landing panic against any boss can lead to a few turns of burst damage if RNG goes your way. The main thing is just to not expect damage out of them.

Loli and young cute/flat female portraits are in fact one of those things but it also has good game-play, music, party building, and so on. I'd recommend starting with 3 if you can only get one of them and want a better first impression. 1 is honestly kind of weak because the series was just starting and trying to find it's footing. I like 2 more than 1 but it also has some more different design choices when compared to the rest of the series. Then again, starting with 1 is okay if you can handle a more mechanically dated game, just know that most people that praise EO's combat are referring to later entries. 1 has painfully simple random encounters and class design unfortunately, it gets much better as the series goes on.
